Guys I,m furiously P$$OFF at chrysler for using that badly put together steering gear box. I went to the dealer to have them check it out, after an hour the mechanic came and told me that I needed a new gear box since the one In the truck was shot. Mind you I've only put 5k miles on the truck. had to wait three weeks for the new one to arrive. After putting the new one in, the truck steered perfictly strate and tight. I was very happy to see that until I got home to check there work. steering fluid all over the front end bumper and under the hood also onn the ground. Now the second new unit has a defective seal on the side that faces the ground which holds the gear guts. So they. ve ordered me a third one. Guys if the first two were defective what is going to garantee me the third one is any better. Please guys If you have any advise I would appreciate it.

I dont know what to tell you about the steer box other than it aint right but I do believe I would be looking for a new dealer if they cant straighten it out.
My dealer gave me too much bull right off the bat on the truck I ordered and guess what I got my down money back and went down the road 20 miles and bought one off the lot, since than I have steered 3 others clear from this joint and they deserve every bit of it.
My motto is do it right or dont do it at all

CHOU56,

Why are you mad at Dodge? They didn't build
the box a person that does'nt work for them
did. Sounds to me like you need to find him
(or her)& kick his (or her) butt.

Rick, I gotta dissagree. DC is 100% responsible for quality of parts that go in it's products. I test software for computers that run banks, NY stock exchange, airlines, etc... and I can tell you that if I let outside contractors software bugs slip through my testing I'd be jobless in seconds after it was discovered. DC is not properly qualifying the vendors and not doing proper spot checks on what the vendors send them. The BIGGEST reason the Japanese completly kicked our butts in the auto and consumer electronics industry in the last 30 years is relentless QUALITY checking. DC has fantastic engineering departments. However, EVERYONE in the DC Quality Assurance organization should fired imo. THEY are responsible more than anything for the current layoffs. Just my opinion...

I have to agree with Dane. I have a '96 Dodge Ram gasser that had blown head gasket, steering box replaced, two oil leaks from the intake manifold under warranty and just last month a rebuilt auto trans at $1,800 out of my pocket. Just 62K miles driving it like a car.

I bought my 2000 Cummins Ram in May and hope it holds up better than my '96 is.

I've owned Fords, Chevys, Dodges and Toyotas.
Had problems with all except Toyota. Sold my '90 4X4 truck for $7K w/ 170K miles on it and my wife's '91 Corolla for $2,000 w/ 234K miles on it.

DC and the other big 3 have to understand that Americans must have quality to keep our business.

My 2 cents!
