Replacing the lifters takes a while but is worthwhile.

What performance increases are you guys experiencing?
Spool-up is faster and EGT is noticeably lower. Also picked up a mileage modest increase. No down side, all good.
Don't know if that is the right way to describe it, but I saw a guy who posted on another forum and used wooden dowels in some sort of way to remove his cam and replace it.
He said it saved him from braking down the engine.
That is the "short cut" I was referring to.

That is standard procedure. Wooden dowels are used to pull the tappets up so the cam can be slid out from under them.
