I need some bed rail caps, and prefer metal vs. plastic. I fling heavy stuff in the back and need the protection. Anyway, although I had Line-X performed, I didn't go over the rail on the sides as this wasn't going to be very dent-proof. Folks on here have commented on how thin the sheetmetal is. Besides, Line-X doesn't provide any bling!

What I'm looking for is comments on what to avoid, and also what has worked well. I had aluminum checkerplate bed rails on the last truck, and over time they deteriorated in appearance. A local buddy pointed me at the Putco Stainless Steel bedrails, but he doesn't have any firsthand experience with them.

Comments? I'm thinking that this time I'll leave the stake holes open as that leaves more options? Would this be good or bad?

Thanks.

I had rail caps on my last truck and would never do them again. Every time I washed my truck had run marks from water caught under the caps. Started to peel up over time. I got rid of them when I did my Line-X bedliner and went over the rails, problems solved!!! Not to mention the extra $90 dollars to get all the adhisive off the rails to do the liner. It was worth it though. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

I have had the smooth stainless rail caps on most of my trucks. I havent had any problems with any of them. I prefer no stake pocket holes simply because I don't use them, and the bling factor. Just my opinion as well. Hope this helps.

Bad picture, but I am running the DeeZee black powdercoat diamond plate. I am 100% satisfied with this product, I am anal and wash my truck sometimes three times a week. The caps have been there since new about 1. 5 years ago, no problems.

I've had the Dee Zee silver aluminum rail caps for about four years. When I first got them they were nice and shiny. Now the clear coat has all pealed off and they are a dull silver. When I line-X the bed I may swap them for a set of stainless steel caps, should have bought those in the first place. My Stull Stainless running boards are about four years old and they still look like new.

Thanks, guys, that's all that I needed to know. Looks like most of y'all have jazzed your units up more than I have. My last truck had the Dee Zee aluminum bedrails and the finish didn't last. I think I'll look for my best price on the Putco Stainless units, based on your recommendations. Now for mudflaps -- that's the next addition. I'll check into it before I post. Thaks again.
