Absolutely NO question that the AT2's are a great tire. If I had a 4x4 they coulda/woulda/shoulda been my choice... ... ... ... ... .....

But as my truck is 2WD, I pulled the trigger on the (evidently very unpopular) GENERAL Grabber HTS 265 x 70 x 17 Load Range E/10 ply... .....

I read all the reviews at Consumers Report, TireRack.com. and 4x4 Magazine and just decided they are the best Highway All Season Tire.

Paid $548 for four at . onlinetires.com, plus $95 shipping (NO sales tax). Then I will pay Discount Tire $79 (or less?) to mount on the OEM polished alloys, inflate with nitrogen, balance and rotate as needed. $722 Est TOTAL Less the $50 mail in rebate

We shall see... ... ... ... ... ... .

Thanks, Chuck from seattle

Kelly Harris Tire, Athens, Texas 235/85R/16 load range E, no tax, farm use

I've always been able to beat the chain stores by finding good local tire shops, ordered today at noon, they'll be in by by 2:00 tomorrow, I'll get them mounted sometime this week, $140. 00 per tire mounted and balanced with no sales tax, disposal fee on any old tires I don't take is $3. 00 per, free rotation as long as I own the truck, I'm going to start having Kelly service my truck and when he puts the Rotella in I'll have him rotate every 5K miles

found some Hankook RF10's for $124. 00 at Ft. Benning when I was seeing my son but they could only get 4 and I needed 6, can't get them here yet, I guess they're so far behind they don't know when the availability will be and I can't wait any longer

16"ers???:eek:This is the 3rd gen forum... 17" world here, and odd ball size to boot for us, other sizes do not apply here. I have 110k hard miles on my LTX M/S's and am contemplating another set, might be getting back into hauling again here soon.

Sorry!!! I was just reading "new posts", didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade, tire info. is tire info. to me regardless of size, I thought my sig. would alert others as to what I had, I'll keep out of the 3rd gen. forums in the future since I sold mine and went back to a 2nd gen. , have a good day!

Hay, It's okay if you want to talk about 2nd generation here. We're talking about tires and I don't care if they are for 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation or even wheel barrow tires if you want. This is about tires and no need to apologize to MMeier or anyone else.

Thanks Grizzly, that was my perception but anyway, I had to buy a new pair for the front sometime back due to a bad tire, he didn't have 6 at the time, I've been trying to piece by with used tires until I could justify all 6, the 2 I bought were off brand Chinese.

6 tires are quite an investment at today's prices and this economy, I didn't feel I could justify Michelin's although they would have been my 1st choice, I really wanted to try the Hankook RF10's due to the reviews I've read and couldn't get them

Most everyone on the TDR has had good comments on the Toyo's so that is why I got them versus Firestones, BFG's or Uniroyals, etc.

The TDR supplies a "wealth" of information to me and I appreciate all I can learn and what little I can help

Everyone have a great day!!!

No harm intended...

... just seems to me these 3rd gen rigs are like no other CTD before them. Some things you would think... like tires... wouldn't know any boundaries, but my truck seems to think so. Carry on !!!

I know a lot of guys swear by BFGs, but I ran them once and they wore out in a hurry. Never again. I'm a big fan of Michelins on a car, but not the truck; way too expensive. My favorite over the years has been Dunlop Radial Rover A/Ts. Nice mix of highway friendly tread, aggressive enough to plow snow, and they seem to last. Remarkably, Sears was they only place that had them in stock, and they were far cheaper than my favorite place for tires.

This past fall we got Continental Contacts for my wife's Toyota Sequoia (a glorified Tundra). I'm no fan of Continentals, but they had huge ratings from owners, and they were relatively inexpensive. I had to convince her to get them, but she loves them. She drives over a snow and ice covered mountain going to and from work and she was impressed. Can't speak about longevity yet though.

Dittos on the Dunlop Radial Rovers. I had the best results on my 95 DRW, yes a 2nd generation, with the Dunlops, which were replacement tires for the original Goodyear Wanglers.

The Goodyears were also very good and had 55K when I replaced them. They could have gone another 5 or 6K, but we were going on a very long trip and I just didn't want to push my luck.

no harm taken:) I found a really good deal on some 17" aftermarket alum wheels with good tires I was going to buy and put on my 2nd gen dually, the bolt pattern was fine but the centerhole wasn't right. the other problem with aftermarkets on a dually is you can't rotate without dismounting which is a hassle and an additional expense

HaHa!----just went through this last week! wore out my 265/70/17 michelins, which I threw back on after I wore out the Toyo AT 325/60/18's I was running. Loved Michelins for on-road manners, just got stuck whenever I left the road. Toyos were good looking, but didn't really shine on or off road (just my opinion), wore out way too quick (<20k) and would've cost a ton to replace. Most any 18" tires are incredibly expensive. Put my 18" wheels up for sale. Wanted to buy Michelin AT2's in 285/70/17. They dont make 'em, have to stay 265's..... Didn't want 265s. Duragrapplers were my #2 choice only because I figured the AT2 would work better in sand. $1100 later I'm the proud owner of 285/70/17 Duragrapplers. look great, ride great (steering is fine but feels like sitting on the sofa now), excellent load and heat ratings. Just have to wait till fall to see how bad they sink at the dunes!

does anyone beside me ever wonder if they change wheels sizes periodically to help the tire companies!!! Then, like SSell after doing all of the research and finally making a decision they don't make the tire you want in the size you want!! go figure:confused: must be one of those right wing conspiracys by Dick Cheney and HaliburtonOo.
