As Title says son coming home from hunting trip with buddy 120 mi from home knock knock knock . Spewed oil all over . Truck is at the dealer will update on progress.

They even have a rep from Chrysler in Detroit calling me so they know this is a major f up.

LOL, maybe the major f up was Dodge/Ram not going with the Cummins V8 like they were considering years ago. ;-)

Flame suit on...

Right there with you on that...these bottom end issues seem to be getting a tad more common.....FIAT needs to get their arms around it or these Eco Diesels will devalue like an Audi when the warranty runs out.

Don't forget that engine was initially a collaboration with GM... Not defending the indefensible, just sayin'.

I thought this engine was a winner in Europe?
p-Bar, what was the truck doing when this happened? Towing, bobtail, etc??

Yep, I kept that in mind when we purchased our '16 Laramie Limited 1500 with a Hemi. IIRC, the Eco-Diesel was originally designed to for use in a European built Cadillac. After GM's bankruptcy, Fiat purchased GM's share of VM Motori.

Well that explains that, I have never liked the Cadillac. I worked on a few in my early years, mostly tear down though, until the real mechanic rebuilt what I removed, after all I was only 17.

I'm sorry to hear that p-Bar, they cost way to much for that kind of agrivation. The tech at May Madness said they had found the issue, with fuel lines not properly shipped allowing cardboard dust to get into the lines. I guess they have to go back to the drawing board. The quality has dropped off after Fiat bought Chrysler, my 2014 2500 CTD work truck I had before I quit the company I worked for, lost the complete rear end at 14K and then a mech shorted something on a oil change and they never found the issue. I hear the company is now suing Chrysler for the cost of the truck and the service bed installed on it. It has been to several different dealers without any fix. They are losing big money on it, if they can't recover the loss in reveneus.

I want to add that ALL OEM's have problems, it's how the problem is handled that makes the difference.

The last thing that I want to see is a black eye given right off the bat to the emerging light duty diesel pick up market. Just reminds me too much of GM and their diesel fiasco's in the early '80s.

The big concern right now is the lack of available engines. With the 3.0 selling so well in the truck and Jeep there in short supply for service. I know they were air freighting them in from Europe for a while for the car down repairs.

Sag2, that's not a good sign, that they have to air freight engines just for the blown engines. What have they been finding, when the cores go back to the factory?

I have had two friends now advised by somewhat local dealers to "steer clear" of the EcoDiesel. What a shame.
