Tie Rod Needed

I need a replacement tie rod for my 93. The left side threads have stripped out (on the way home from Tahoe). Anyone know of a source as I need one ASAP.

Most all of the auto parts stores in my area (Advance, O'Rielly, AutoZone) list them, as well as NAPA and Carquest.

Local stores list the tie rod ends but not the actual tie rod. Do you know a part #?

Tie Rod

From what you said I think you need the adjusting sleeve that connects the tie rod ends. If this is what you need O'Reilly lists it as Part No: ES3124S. It is the same for both sides. Hope this helps.

No thats not the part. The Dana 60 front axel has a long tie rod with right and left hand threads (approx 51" long)

Its called a drag link.



I have never tried to get one from a parts store. So I am not sure if it can be had outside of Dealer stock.



I hope you didn't hurt the truck when it let go.

Isn't the drag link the short, solid, bent rod between the pitman arm on the steering box and the steering arm on the steering knuckle? I thought the long rod connecting the knuckles was called the tie rod?



No- no damage but it was a white knuckle ride home. I think the steering stableizer saved my bacon.

The part you are describing is similar to the two wheel drive, a note of caution to all that read this thread. Sometimes the guy that does the front end alignment fails to tighten the lock on those adjustments. The result will eventually be what has happened here, stripped threads. Check the clamps on your truck.

Your right JB. All I found it called in the FSM is a center link. The drag link is from the steering box to the pitman arm.

I found one at a dealer ($$$) ugh! but they can have it to me tomorrow. They called it a tie tube or center tube. I also found a 4x4 shop that would make one for half the dealer cost but the lead time was too long.





I guess the old girl knew this was the last trip to the sierras with me and wanted to give me a ride to remember. :-laf

I was able to buy a brand new tie rod - also called a center link - at NAPA not too long ago. They have two grades - cheap and not so cheap - the not so cheap is a much heavier component. I would also recommend that you replace your tie rod ends at the same time. A preliminary toe in alignment can be set after you put the tie rod on - set for 1/16" to 1/8" toe in which will be good enough to get you to a good alignment shop. Good luck.

None of the local parts houses in my area, including NAPA, don't show this part in their catologes. I know NAPA has 2 grades of drag links. I've been through 3 heavy duty ones from them in the last 4 years. They said this on was the last one they would warrenty. If it goes out they'll just give me a refund. Funny how the stock one lasted 9 years.



Phillip- I need 4 doors & 4wd. I don't know if a new CTD is in the budget. If I'm forced to get a gasser it probably won't be another Dodge. Unfortunately California is doing everything they can to kill the deisel.

I don't blame you on another brand. I would not want a Dodge truck with a gas engine.
