Time for G56 Fluid Change

Quick question, guys. I'm about to change fluid in the G56 and transfer case and need to know the capacities of each.



Second, what size allen wrench do I need for the G56. I know the transfer case is 10mm but don't know the size for the transmission.



Third, how difficult is it to refill the transmission using one of those hand pumps sold in the auto supplies stores? I don't want to drain the fluid and then find out I can't get the new fluid in. Thanks in advance... .



(Truck is 2007. 5 RAM 3500 w/75k miles)

14mm for the transmission. The pump will work fine for both the transfer case and transmission refill.

I pull the cupholders apart, take off the stick, and dump it in the top.

I usually put a 6" or longer piece of 1/2" id vinyl tube on the pump spout so that i can insert the tube into the transmission, transfer case, or diff housing if that is what I am filling. In fact you can put a longer piece on it so that you can leave the jug on the floor... easier to pump that way.

6 quarts on the g56 to fill and one quart over full to lube and cool the front bearing for a total of 7 quarts. mix one gallon synthetic syncromesh sae50 transmission fluid with one gallon 5w-30 synthetic syncromesh transmission fluid. this gives the best shifting, quietist and lowest temp. use the sae50 in the 271

2. 5 quarts. Just fill to the bottom lip of the fill hole.

If you don't want to pull the inside apart to get the extra quart in then just jack up the right side of the truck and put it on jack stands then you can pump in the last quart.

I'm planning to drive the right side up on ramps normally used to level an RV. Thanks to you others for your helpful suggestions... . Eddy
