While fixing my KDP, I removed three of the five bolts that hold the timing gear case to the block and cleaned/loctite them. There were two behind the cam gear I could not remove - one of them I could tighten with the socket, the other one required a 10mm wrench with a bend in it. The three I could take out were so loose that I could unscrew them with my fingers  but the ones behind the cam gear were still tight.
The KDP was still tight in the bore and fully seated. The engine has unknown milage, definately over 200k, but probably between 200-220k.

Sounds like you got to the bolts just in time!

I hope you fixed the pin so it couldn't come out while you were in there.

I used a small punch to create an edge in the bore, then I cleaned with brake cleaner and applied green loctite. I was going to use a tab but the inside of the case isn't flat.

I bent a small dog leg in my tab and it worked just fine. The early cases aren't flat like the p-7100 set up. Seems all these bolts are loose on many engines. Another killer bites the dust!!!! Tim

I just ground the tab down to where it was narrow enough to fit inside the hole, then tapped it in place with a screwdriver:

Jdonoghue Everyone of us that have pulled the timing cover have found loose bolts. Sounds like you caught yours in the nick of time.

I hope the 2 gen guy's read this and start pulling covers. The jig fix might be fast. But I hope it doesn't jump up and bite them later.

I just finished mine this past weekend and all bolts did not require a great deal of effort to remove. I removed, cleaned, locktited and re-torqued 4 of them. The 5th one I backed out far enough to clean, locktite and re-tighten. While I had the front end apart I installed a new belt tensioner, water pump and the latest no-swing thermostat (not). BTW my KDP was just as tight as you please.
