I have a 2009 stock truck. I installed a CM flatbed on it the first week I got the truck. After about two years the lights on the flat bed and my parking lights started doing some strange things. I was informed the TIPM was bad and I had to replace it. That was about six months ago. Yesterday while fueling up the truck reved up and then died, and I mean DOA. Towed it to the place that replaced the TIPM and said they have recently had to replace TIPM'S on about a half dozen other trucks in the last year, all had flat beds installed. Has anyone heard of this problem?

Are the tail lights factory installed or did the tail lights get changed out? If you have a short in the wiring or a high amp draw, it could damage the TIPM. Any electrical loads added to the truck should always be powered from the battery, through a fuse, to a relay that is controlled by the TIPM output. Remove the TIPM and check for corroded electrical terminals at the connectors on the bottom. The TIPM is the data information controller for the CAN BUS com to ALL the other controllers in the truck. If the TIPM can't talk on the bus, the truck shuts down.

Sear "TIPM" saver and you will see the setup.

His most recent model is plug and play. (He converted mine, it was on the shelf for a while). It separates the tipm from a flat bed or trailer wiring problems.

Last I heard motorhead was not making the tipm saver.

yea, but he was trying to sell it to some one.

Additionally you could use the same deign/parts and create one.
Thats why i said check it out.

CM deck wiring

I installed a CM deck on my 3500. You have to carefully use the correct wires to feed the tail lights, licence, and park lights. Pay lots of attention to grounding, not only to connecting the grounds to the harness wires but to also ground the deck directly to the frame and up to the cab body (first cleaning the connection surfaces).

Then I had my dealer go into the computer and change the programming to allow combined turn and brake signals (these trucks are built with separate wiring for turn signals and brake signals). I had to tell the sevice tech what to do through, as they had never heard of this. The CM decks are wiring like most trailers with combined element turn and brake. After this is done the the factory harness signal leads are not used, just isolate and shrink wrap over.

Maybe this is something to do with these problems?
