I have been running the same tire size as what the original owner installed, LT265 /75 R16 E. The tire pressure on the door jam cites max pressures as F 65psi, R 80psi. When the bed is empty or lightly loaded their set to F 65psi F, R 55psi. I also have airlift bags on the read axle inflated at 5-10 psi.

Please share your experience in running tire pressures on your truck.

I use load and inflation charts to help me decide my tire pressures.

That means as low as 50/35 empty, and as high as 65/80 loaded. Without any bed payload I normally can run 65/65 towing my 5th wheel. On dirt roads I’ll go even lower empty for traction/ride reasons, but not lower than 40/25.

Overinflation isn’t as bad as underinflation, but it’s still not good. Overinflated tires have worse tread life, are more susceptible to road hazards, ride worse, and have lower traction.

My '97 came with a tire inflation chart, and I've seen them on line as well. After some trial and error since I am seldom loaded or unloaded with the same weights I've settled on 75 on the front and 65 in the duels unless the pin weight of what I'm hauling is very, very heavy. Then I go to the nearest truck stop and add air to the duals.

Empty you can lower those LT265/75R16E down to 35 pounds or so. The ride and handling will be greatly improved. 60-65 in the fronts is fine all the time, the load varies very little there. The tires at 35 PSI are good for 1910 lbs each, or 800-1000 more for both than the axle weight empty.

I run 55 front and 45 rear empty. Any more and my truck gets squirmy because it's dancing on the treads. Loaded, I max them out at 65 f&r. I also have 35x12.5x17. Tire size/volume has a lot to do with proper pressures. My next set of tires will be "F" rated on 20' wheels. I'll be trading off a little ride quality and off road capability for more stability with the truck camper.
Btw, I run 16 to 18 lbs off road (empty).
