whats the tire sizes you guys are running on a non lifted 3rd generation? and could you go up a size? short story long are 35's gonna fit on a stock 2500 crew cab srw?

I went with 315's on 06. You will get a rub on the frame when turning to the max, very slight. I can live with the rub just for the look!!

I'm doing the same on my 04... 315 70 17... I have a slight rub on the lower control arm on both sides. I only really notice it when I REALLY crank the wheel going into a driveway/parking spot etc.

I have run stock 265/70s, 315/70s and 285/70s for me the 285s were the best balance between looks and load capacity and power, the 315s take too much power awsy when towing and they are not feel as solid as the 285s.

315's will fit just fine on a non lifted 3rd gen on factory wheels, they will rub on the control arms even if lifted. (unless you spend $1500 on custom arms)

They will take more to get rolling and bringing them to a stop again. With an auto trans the mileage will drop, the jury is still out with a manual trans .

I recently purchased 315/70/17 Nitto Dune Grapplers and put them on the stock 17x7 rims. They fit perfect under the truck with no rubbing lock to lock. Americas Tire was a little apprehensive about putting them on, but they couldn't have fit better. A 2in. leveling kit really completed the look. I can post pics. if you would like. The truck is a 06 4wd.

I am trying to upload a picture.

Here is a picture of my truck with the 315's.

Hope it works.

Here's a pic of my truck with 265/70R19. 5's on steel Ricksons with trim rings. These tires are 34. 5" tall and don't touch or rub on anything. They also have a weight rating of over 5,000 lbs. each when aired to max. This is first pic I tried to post so hope it works.....

295's?

I've got Toyo 285-70-17 AT's on my '07. I hope 295's in a "E" rated AT by Toyo are available when I burn these up. 315's are necessary for the sand guys though. I used to use my Landcruiser in Baja sand years ago and you needed all the flotation you could get. On the other hand,if it started raining those floats would turn into cheater slicks pronto. I've white-knuckled it out of a favorite spot several times. Climbing onto the tarmac would bring a sigh of relief and the popping sound of a cold beverage of your choice. :D

DPurchase,

How do the 35" tires effect the speedo ?? Do you have automatic or manual trans ?? Is there a big power loss ?? stress on trans ?? Would a person have to add an Edge Juice or similar to compensate for loss of power, or is stock fine ???? I've got an 06' also, and am getting anxious to start triking it out!!

The speedo will read less than actual speed,The smarty will allow you to recalibrate it. It will also more than make up for any loss of responsiveness.

TAbbott... .

I Think that is a nice combination and would fit my application well. Who's tires are those? If you dont mind me asking what did the whole ball of wax set you back?

What he said. :-laf

I run LT285/70R17 Cooper Discoverer STT's and they are great.

I agree too. I love my 315s but they are about an inch too wide for my taste and the stock wheels. Trouble is, if you go narrower, you also sacrifice the height, which I do not want to do. I would love a 285 or even a 295 in the 19. 5 combo. That would be perfect and I would also get the load rating I want that the 315s don't provide.

TAbbott, tell us more about those tires and wheels!

Bob4x4,

toying with the thought of 35" tires on the 06"

Thanks again for all the info, everyone here is just a wealth of knowledge !!

What size tires do you have on your 2005 ? and have you done anything to the transmission ?? Can the stock trans handle the bigger tires ?

If I were to get a Smarty or other, my concern is the trans, being mine is stock ? Would I need upgades right away ?? What about the 3:73 gears I have?

Sorry for all the questions..... I I've heard and read so much about the stock auto transmission's being a weak link

Kry226,

What kind of mileage do you get with 315's ?? Is your Trans stock, and if so, any problems ?? Do you have any sort of fueling enhancements to make up for loss of power with the bigger tires ??

Randall,

I love the 315s and I got the 4. 10 gears because I knew I was going with larger tires. Mileage is obviously speed dependent, but I got my best a couple of weeks ago on a 400 mile trip. At 73 mph I averaged 20. 5 on the overhead (it has never been off more than . 5 mpg in over three years based on my hand calcs). I just traveled another 450 mile trip with 10k gross (truck, trailer and cargo) and I got 15. 7 at the same speed. I once got 12 mpg at 14K gross over about 900 miles at about 65-70 mph when the truck only had 8K on the odo. The truck currently has 43K on it and I have no boxes, fueling enhancements, etc. The only thing I have done is adjust the valves and I run Amsoil in the engine/diffs and Stanedyne PF in every tank. I have never had the first hint of death wobble and these tires have been on since 5K. Your results may vary, but they have been great for me. I run 50 psi up front always and 45 in the rear unloaded. When loaded or towing, I bump the rears up to 50 psi too. These tires have worn great, even on the stock wheels, and I'll probably be able to get another 10K out of them. Good luck and I hope this helps.

P. S. In the summer w/ A/C on, I get about 14 in the city and about 16 with the A/C off in the city. The more miles I put on this thing the happier I get, and the 48RE is still as smooth as silk.

Kyle,

Thanks for such a great response... . Just what I was looking for. I think since I have 3:73 gears, I might be better off sticking with 285's... ... ... but then again, maybe I should change gearing to 4:10, and go with the 315's. That's awesome to get mileage like that with big tires. Do you know how difficult it would be to change out to 4:10 gears ??

I too run Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tank..... it's good stuff !!!

Good. No idea about the gears, but do a search. I know a couple of boys have done the swap in the last couple of years. Good luck.

Does anyone know what kind of mileage a stock 2006 48re with 3:73 gears with 315/ 35" tires would get... . highway, no load ????

How about a stock 2002 47re with 3:55 gears with 285 tires??

and also 3:55's with 315 tires:confused:

thanks, Randall
