I was wondering if I could just remove the spacer for the front wheels to be able to run a regular 16x8 or 16x10 rim. Or do I need to find different rotors and other items. I am considering the swap for lookes and traction but I am not sure what all I will encounter.

I think the spacer has to do with keeping the center of the wheel & tire over the center of the wheel bearings. Notice the words "I think".

looks and traction

I can sorta understand changing so it looks diff than anybody elses - DORKY - but definately diff. :p

But traction? W/o the spacer and with 3/4 ton type rims - your tire should track at the same place. What diff are you looking for? Now if your getting rid of the outside duals too - you could gain a lot in the snow, but I don't think that's what your asking... .

Now - next question - how many type of spares are you planning on sporting?

Don't know about dorky - think it might look kinda cool. But who am I to say what looks good or bad on someone elses truck?

Don't think the fronts have an outside dual

RPA - there have been DRW to SRW conversions done, and the only mod to the front axle was to remove the spacers. Do a search using "DRW to SRW" in the title only.

I have seen a few of trucks from Indiana who sled pull with the set-up and I thought they looked really good. I thought maybe I could get lucky and just remove the spacer then find the proper backspaced 16X10 to match a set of aluminum wheels on the rear.

If your gunna quote me - quote all that is relivent:

I meant the outside dual in the back (I haven't sen many on the front either) which would then put front and rear inline and gain traction in snow by not cutting more tracks. That is the only gain in traction that I could think of. (one of his points)

Sounds like it will work.
