Yesterday I slid under the front of my 2WD looking for the source of an oil leak. Just the same as 21 years ago, I didn't have any trouble which tells me the springs haven't collapsed or gotten any weaker with over 1.3 million miles of road behind them, including two trips to Alaska and many trips across OK and CA, the worst roads in the US.

Update: Installed a set of the yellow Bilsteins, ride is way better. So no, I don’t believe my problems was tired springs. But having said that, I’m not so sure a different set of springs might ride better. Thanks for all the input/replies.

Better late than never? I put larger diameter tires on my 2001 2500 many years ago. They never used to hit the wheel wells. Now they hit. I'm pretty sure its the stock springs sagging. My 2 cents.

If anyone has any good stock replacement spring suggestions, let me know. The OEM springs are no longer available.
Thanks,
Darren

They appear to be available:

Or maybe Napa:

180k? Have you replaced the suspension bushings? Guaranteed they're wore out.

Do you sell bushings by any chance:)

How can you know without looking? Even if you do look, what do you look for? I have 326k on my '01, the front is 100% original. I can't see or feel anything wrong with it. Drives good, rides good, tires wear fine.

If y'alls' springs are tired, mine must be exhausted. Why is it mine doesn't sag then?

Certainly hard to argue with as many miles as you've got, but logic says overtime they must. If not physically sagging there is likely a reduction in integrity. They are steel and compress often while driving. The constant movement alone has to eventually cause fatigue to a certain degree. People that live in humid and/or corrosive environments have this working against them as well. I've personally seen a few break over the years including the drivers side on my wife's VW. She was on the freeway doing 70 mph when it broke. Luckily it was just the lowest coil wrap and exited without causing any damage but it changed the ride height drastically enough that by the time she got home - about 100 miles later - there were signs of scrubbing on the inside of the tire. If you happened to be far from home and one broke i think you'd be forced to seek a repair shop.

I'm looking at a 10 year old picture, 700,000 miles ago. The stance looks the same. When I get back to TX I'll pose the truck in the same place and you can compare. The ride is the same (according to my wife who only rides in it in the summer when we are RVing), there isn't any kind of evidence of fatigue.
