I have a friend who has a '98 Ram He has had to replace the left front tire twice at only about 15000 miles each time. Apparently it wears on the outside somewhat unevenly. He has been told it is not an allignment or balancing problem. He was also told that it was a common problem with the Dodge Rams. I have 15000 miles on my '99 Ram and am not seeing the same problem. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I have about 16,000 on my Michelin LTX M/S, they have been rotated once. They show no unusual wear and should last about 40,000 at present wear rate (no towing/heavy loads). I wouldn't call 15,000 miles of tire life normal, have inflation pressures been checked regularly and adjusted according to load? 50-60PSI is about right for the stock front tires depending on load, severe underinflation could wear off the outside edge very quickly.

Is it a 4x4 or 4x2? My 4x4 has never shown any signs of uneven wear and is much better than my '88 Chevy 4x4 was. It needed frequent rotation.

The only tire wear my truck has is on the rear tires, if I could just get the rears to wear as well as the fronts I'd be in fat's city.

Whoever told him it was not an alignment problem needs to go back to school. It's most definately an alignment or suspension wear problem.

I have 55,000 miles on my Michelin LTX tires now, and expect to get at least 10,000 more miles. I will definitely replace these with the exact same tire in the future. MEGA is a 3500 2WD and I put at least 70% of the miles on pulling our race trailer. Regardless of what your dealer has told you, you've got a mechanical problem causing the wear!

I only have 7000-miles on my truck and I was showing wear on the outside edges of my front tires. I commute over a winding mountain road everyday (a little on the fast side), so I can understand the wear. I'm just going to keep rotating them. I also have the Michelin's.

I have 144,000 miles on my Michelin LTX tires. I rotate every 6000 to 8000 miles and have never had to align the front end even after hitting a 14' alligator. I still have about 4/32's tread left. My tires have always worn evenly.
Something's got to be wrong to get such uneven wear.

15k on mine and the only wear is from scuffing the rears on dry pavement #ad

PS: Have your buddy take it 2 a real line-up shop.

Dresslered. . Expect aprox 20k before replacement... The mountain roads and "slot car" driving style love to eat the tires. . #ad

... I got aprox 20k on my first set and I drive a few more miles of twisties than you... my second set I was over 60k before the wreck [they have another max 5/10 k left in them]... they are Mich. XPS lt235-85-16 a commercial grade of tire. I recommend this tire to any dually as they have a VERY HEAVY DUTY construction and DO NOT flex on the sidewalls !!! on normal road surfaces I would expect very high mileage if they can tripple the mountain wear . . another great application would be trailer/5er tires... well worth the $$. . they are available in m/s tread a big issue for me as snow area here... I special ordered them at Costco. . They take a few miles to "break in" and feel a little like walking on your toes during beak in. . great after that !!!

Thanks willy, I would be interested in trying the tires if they will still grip the road. No sense wrapping around a redwood tree to save a little tire wear. Also, will be pushing maximum GVWR with a slide-in camper.

ditto "have it professionally checked". I have a 98. 5 2wd with 40k and just put new tires on the front at about 36k. NO uneven wear, front or rear.

I haven't had any front or rear tires wearing out unevenly. I have had my front right tires start cupping, had aligned and rotated. First set lasted 67,000 still have second set on.
