Okay y'all I give up!
I am looking for tires in the 36 inch range and am wondering about the codes. What is the differences between C, D, E tires? What about those with a 6-ply rating, 8 or even 10-ply. And then we get to the load ratings!
Question, would a 6-ply rated for ~3000lbs. be okay if I don't tow much. How would that compare to a D rating. I wouldn't want to kill tires quick with a big truck but still want 36" (Radial Ground Hawgs). Thanks guys... Bombing with small tires... Big Ugly

BU, the 6,8,10 ply rating is not what it used to be years ago, now its C,D,E ratings. A tire rated E is suppose to equal a 10 ply in that the tread area is 10 plys but the side walls are normally just 2 plys. Very few tires have extra thick side walls anymore. The BFG has what is called tri-guard side walls or 3 plys. You can get away with a D rating but remember that motor is heavy up front and you might want to stay with a E rated tire. You can always adjust the tire pressure for a comfortable ride. Regards Pete

BigUgly,

I am running Denman Coyote LT305/85R16`s(36" tall 9. 1" wide) now. They are only a load range C. A tall & Skinny tire. They have a tall sidewall, which will flex easily, creating drift & wander. Can`t really recommend them. They might work a lot better on wider wheels. Mine are 6. 5". They do look GREAT on the truck though. #ad
At $136. 00 each, they are a good buy. #ad

Bill, are those store bought traction bars or did you make them yourself? Do they fit the 3500? Thanks Pete

Bill those tire make the Ram look like it's ment to, only problem is that I want a more aggressive mud-type tire that still runs good on the street, this led me to believe that the Radial Ground Hawgs from Denman would be good. Anyone had any experience with them? Oh well, thanks guys. BigUgly

Thanks Bill, I forgot about that thread, exactly what I wanted to read about. Regards Pete

I just put 38" Radial Hawgs on my Ram. They are actually 37" tall. The ride is excellent and they are a little louder than my old BFG muds. I E-mailed Denman and they said the tires are fine for towing. 3160lbs load rating. I tried Swampers and they are not highway friendly at all. Sold 'em with 200 miles on em. If you e-mail Denman, ask for cosmetic blems, they will get you a much better price. Good luck!

Thanks Snyder;
I e-mailed Denman yesterday but haven't gotten anything back yet, it's good to hear that the tires are okay, thanks for the tip on blems tires, that sounds like an idea. Your truck sounds like how I want mine to eventually turn out, but I plan on doing itin to stages, 4. 5" lift with 36" and much later going to 38" with a body lift.
Thanks for all of the help gang. . BigUgly
