Trailer tie downs

My none duelly experience

We have almost a dozen 3/4 trucks (all but two are dodge diesels) pulling 16' goosenecks with 800 water tank grossing 21,000. We put 40 - 80K miles on these trailers every year. Make lots of trips out to WY and east to IL.

All trucks prior to this year were 5sp or 6sp with 3:55. No Duellys! and no 4:10s. This year we got our first auto with 3:73 It was a SO! The 6sp HO 3:55 will out pull this SO auto 3:73 (no surprise there).

I agree with the post about how you will use the truck (% pulling versus runnin empty). All our trucks have the axillary suspension. The 2003 is a 3500 single wheel with a 9900 GVW. It will handle allot. The 265/75R17 wheels provide a lot of rubber.

We run lots of high speed (Montana) and gravel roads. Never have I had a driver ask for duelly (we could get then if we asked).

From here on out, if we get another auto (doudt it) it will be specd with 4:10. All manuals will stay with 3:73.

We never shift out of 5th (5sp) even with the non HO trucks. The HO trucks are awsome.

All stock power!

Our only problem running single wheel trucks pulling 13K loads is rear tire wear. But then government gets tires cheap!

I bought the dually for the camper we don't even have yet. My truck is a daily driver and I have been driving into downtown Seattle 3 times a week for appointments. Parking can be a little tough but not bad. In a few weeks I'll be done driving into Seattle and the most crowded parking area I'll be in is Home Depot.

I have never heard of a dually owner who was not happy about having the dually.

Go with the dually

I got the dually because I carry a slide in and there is a big

difference in stability. I also pull a trailer and I would much do it

with the dually than single rears. I also use the truck as a

commuter and I don't mind it at all.

Forget Legal

Don't worry about what's legal, worry about your butt. Because that's what is going to get hurt if you are in an accident. And don't forget about those other precious little tushies that may be in there with you.

Just a slightly skewed point of view,
