'01 Fuel Tank Strap broke

Yea it is. Already have brand new block from Cummins,($2,100. ) and I have a rebuilt and decked head coming from Redliner. Pistons , bearings, oil pump and cooler are orderd.

Still undecided about cam. Looking at Hamilton Big Stick, Helix 2 from PDW, and a couple of others. Don't think I want to cut the pistons though.

Any advice? Need to get a cam ordered tomorrow

Minor changed to the cam should not require you to shave the pistons. Might need to go with a head stud kit, maybe o-ring the head. Depends on if you are going to drop some twins on it too.

You going to have the head bench ported (I think that's the term, intake and exhaust flow balanced)?

I used the Piers QuickSpool on my '03, and I'm pretty happy with it. I used the Colt Big Stick in my '97, and it has proven to really run well!! Boost went from 42 to 55. My '03 block split right through #15? cylinder head bolt, dumping water on #6 piston. You can imagine what else followed. I bored 'er . 020, ordered some pistons from Cummins, Mahle makes some goooooood ones, too. Also used the DDP 80hp nozzles on stock injectors, as that's what I had here. She runs VERY well..... no electronics, gets 18-24mph depending on external conditions and my right foot, and usually does around 15 medium loaded. I couldn't ask for much more. I might go back with the TST Powermax in the future, but right now I need 'er too much to work with, so no mods until I get the '93 finished.

For what it's worth, I think I paid $450 for the Colt cam and lifters from Peak Diesel. I'd suggest a call for their two bits, as well. Dave is who I usually talk to.....

Got the pan and head on today. Things looking up until close inspection of rocker arms.

Most all of them have minor galling on the pressure side of the rocker and bushings.

Cummins wants $1500. for a set. crazy. Now I'm looking for a used Good set

Damn. Starting to look like a reman might have been a little less damaging to the pocket.

I hope you find a set!

Yea... it just kept comming, I thought the head, cam, valve train etc were good.

No turning back now.

There's gotta be some good used rocker assembly's out there. Also, had 1 slightly bent push rod.

Will try to attach a couple pictures. Been trying, but I can't seem to get them to post.

Just a suggestion, if you can't find a used set, Harland Sharp has a Roller Rocker called D-Force..... I haven't used any of the diesel products, but over the years I've used some of his other products, and they were all well made..... Harland Sharp

I ran into the same thing when my '03 came apart. I thought it was just the piston that blew, so when the block came up cracked when it was getting machined, I thought I'd just drop the money and do it all just how the heck I wanted..... Putting it together myself, buying a cam, turbo, gasket sets, rebuilding the head, and buying oversized pistons, and it still came out wayyy cheaper than a crate engine. And now I REALLY enjoy driving it, even without any electronic mods!! And the mileage increase will pay for the reman over the life of the truck... . presuming it makes 300k... .
