fuel mileage - EPA vs. Consumer Reports

My 04 doesn't smoke at all with my downloader in the performance mode. Only in extreme. I run it in performance. My 96 will smoke like a freight train if I hammer it, and the valet switch is off. I run valet mode 99% of the time, and get very little smoke, if any, most of the time. Oddly enough, it gets it's best fuel mileage driving it easy. Smoke is wasted HP, and fuel mileage, and with the price of fuel... .

But I do like to play, once in a while. :D

How's that hybrid work with the 370's there Jim? Can you tell an improvement of anything over the stock turbo? Is the spool or lag bad?

Often times I wish I had a programmer to be able to adjust my fuel settings. I can't bet ya that i'd be a lot more conservative with the smoke than I am with the mechanical pump.

Was it GE i just saw advertising their new locomotives? Didn't see any smoke there. May not be able to use that comparison much longer

TMaas,

The hybrid works good with this setup. It's a little laggy with the valet switch, but not too bad. I don't think I've ever seen 1200* on the pyro, even towing, in valet mode. Cruising between 65-70, my temps run 500-600*, and boost is about 2lbs, whether I have the valet switch on, or off. However, I can still hit 1500* with the valet off. The turbo will jump to 40+lbs, almost instantly, (no wastegate), and it gave me about 40 hp on the dyno, over the stock turbo. It also helped a lot with the smoke.

I run a custom programmed TST Comp stacked with an Edge EZ and I leave the TST turned down to level 3 for daily driving. If i ease into the throttle before passing all I get is a haze instead of the huge cloud as this combo gets on the turbo fast. And it will still run in the 13s with it on this setting so the power is there.

I ordered the parts from here, and did it myself. I got the stage II, because I didn't want any down time with the truck, and the stage III needs some machine work, but it only took me a couple hours. Eventually, I will be upgrading again, though. :D

Thanks!

I'd like another turbo and a single stack. I'm getting jealous of the sound that a T6. 354 Perkins makes while idling and spooling up. Hint: small turbo=awesome spooling sound. :D

TMaas, I'll post some pics. Under the dash I have a dial I can turn right-minimal fuel 1150 max egt and no smoke, turn all the way left-wide open fuel, egts max out and black death. It's got an infinate amount of settings in between.
