Topper storage - anyone try this?

I need somewhere to store the topper (leer 100) from the 99 when its not in use. Anyone try one of these:

I like the concept, but the price seems a little on the high side.

My uncle made something similar to store his topper. He used a boat trailer winch, a couple of pulleys and a couple of 2x4's. It works good for him, and this system looks like it would work at least as well if more so (it looks much stronger than his). I'd say if you have a high enough ceiling then go for it.

Vic, I bought a lift setup for my snug top shell that does the same thing. When I go back to my other house I'll try to get the info. Works great, seems somewhat simple compared to the one illustrated.

I have one for my canoe. Was around $100. Forgot where it came from but they had models for more$ that would work for a truck cap. Thinking of building my own for less$. Want to be able to pick it from the roof rack and just put a sfety strap under it to secure it to the cieling.

I do the same thing with 4 heavy duty tie down straps and rope. The rope goes through my open windoors and I hang the 4 straps in the rafters. After the cabover is off, I just back the truck under the shell hanging in the garage and let it down onto the truck. Total cost was $20

Thanks for the reply's. I was daydreaming about this today at work and I'm sure I can come up with something better/ cheaper then the $180 model with these ideas. Off to the hardware store this weekend I guess.

I used 4 motorcycle tie-downs (Ancra Classics) and some lag bolts in the floor joists when I rented a house with a basement. Worked great and I could easily take it on or off by myself. Like previously mentioned, park the truck under it.

Had a buddy with an 86 K-5 Blazer... ... . he did the same thing basically.



Backed up under his rear deck (house was on a hill) and just used 4 rachet straps to pull 'er off. He could have it done in like 30 mins or less.

I created a recess into the attic of my garage for mine to be lifted up into(8ft ceiling). I use rope to lift it up into place and then use wing nuts on some bolts protruding down from the ceiling to take the weight off the ropes during long term storage.
