Notice the tow hooks are shaped like the M of Mopar. I'm sure by design. The issue I have is there is no retention spring to hold the tow strap on. If the tow strap gets slack it can fall off the hook.

If the tow strap/sling is big enough to be used for towing/pulling on an ~8k pound or greater vehicle, the ends are not going to slip off. It will be a bit of a fight to get them on and off the hook as configured.

Where's the crow? I admitted I worded it poorly. The bracket sandwiches the frame horn. Can you show me a bent or broken tow hook or bracket. Did you watch the video that brought all this on? Do you really think the factory would install hooks that can't be used as designed? Talk about a warranty nightmare.

Where's the bread?

Well I installed the second gen OEM kit myself and they had very robust mounts in my book. Pulled a lot of things with them in 14 years. Snoking

Dirt nap??? :-laf
So throw a strap around the bird and give it a tow start. Chris
Is that allowable per the Owner's Manual??? :-laf
I would but the hooks don't attach directly the spine. Might bend his beak in the process.
Or mis-align the bumper. :-laf
3rd gear is best with a high torque diesel.
Poor DMF when engaging in a 3rd gear start / recovery pull. :-laf

I'm waiting. Where's all the carnage wrought from these flimsy tow hooks?

I don't think the hooks are weak. Just how they're mounted to the frame is weak.

Apparently, the Ram 5500 C/C tow hooks are completely different and attach in a different location. I just read about someone that mounted them to his 2500, but wasn't a direct bolt-on without modding the hooks some. Not sure if having a 3500 frame will allow the C/C hooks to bolt on directly or not.

Ebay link to Ram 5500 C/C tow hooks:

A chain is only a strong as its weakest link. If the brackets are weak why are there no reports of failure. It surprises me that men who I thought were rational would do a Chicken Little impersonation over a single post and UTube vid. Particularly when the video shows someone who I wouldn't allow to load a shopping cart loading a pickup on a ramp truck.

I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but was there ever any resolution on this topic? I had heard of other people complain about the 2500/3500 tow hooks having issues...not necessarily the hooks themselves, but the brackets that were used to secure them to the frame.

Does anyone know of aftermarket solutions or a way to utilize the 5500 tow hooks?

As I remember, the 45/5500 tow hooks will bolt up but only one set of holes line up with the existing frame holes on 25/3500 frames. Should be easy to adapt.
