I bet they will bolt up fine, but the wiring may not be there. Did the 98' and older trucks come with a smaller elect/heat mirror and the switch on the door? Pull the top corner of the door panel and see if the open plug is there. (pic of the plug in my post above) Without the factory wiring, you could probably wire in the switch and power, but it would be one heck of a job. As far as the aftermarket/discount vendors, their info on what fits what isn't always accurate.

Yes, my '98 has heated power mirrors, just not the tow mirrors. If the wiring is different, not a biggie for me. I just thought it was weird that the box says 98-01 and the site says 99-01. So, before I shell out the bucks, I'd like to be sure they're going to at least fit.

yes, I've run power/heated tow mirrors on my 98 and everything worked great

Does this mean you've put THESE mirrors on your '98 or just that power heated mirrors are on 98 trucks?

I got my reinforcing plates from the dealer today, $17. 22 each, and finally got my mirrors on tonight. Everything mated up nicely and no gaps any place. The power adjust and the heat worked fine. They work and look great. Only frustration was not knowing about the plates in the first place, thanks Thomas for the help.
Regards, Mike.

maybe not such a good deal

Just finished installing these mirrors on my friends 01 2500 and i am not impressed. After installing the mirrors with the backing plates and all the correct hardware they shake bad. Anything over 30 mph with a slight breeze makes every image in the mirror behind you a blurr. And on top of that the passenger side mirror will not adjust in when the mirror is down and up when the mirror is in tow mode. This may just be a bad set but he is going to return them (hopefully for money back). I did the conversion on my truck with the 2nd gen bases and 3rd gen mirror heads and that is a better option in my opinion. These mirrors look very similar from the outside but when you look at the power adjust mechanism behind the glass it is a different design than the oem style.

just my 2 cents

Well my mirrors are on. I'm verry happy with them, the fit was just as good as my oem tow haul mirrors. When tighting up the 3 nuts u must alternate to pull the mirror in evenly and tight or it will apear to be a bad fit and or lose when driving. Had that happen when I installed my oem tow haul mirrors. So I see no one has had any problems with the control for the mirrors on the driver side hiting the nut from the mirror stud? I did and trimed the end of the control back a 1/8 inch or so and it worked. Thats it. Mirrors work great, look great, fit and at 70 mph no more vib then my oems.

Thumbs up from me

I had that problem, but forgot to say anything about it. I'm taking an extra nut I had left over from when I was going to build my own mirrors down to Lowes to get a bolt to use instead of the stud/nut combo.

tazzen, Yeah the nut hit the mirror controller on my truck also and I took the dremel and ground an 1/8 inch or so off the corner for clearance. My mirrors are tight and don't shake but I also cinched up the nuts a little at a time and I used thick 6mm hard washers and grade 8 nylock nuts. Every thing is great so far.

Mirrors out of stock!!!!!!!!!

I ordered a set on Tuesday and found out tonight that they are out of stock. They don't even show up on the website now (only the manual mirrors). I had to call them to find out the status of my order and when I did they let me know they were out of stock... No due-in date as of yet.

I e-mailed Kool-Vue and advised them of the interest here. Auto Parts Warehouse is in CA, I'll try to call them this afternoon since they are 3 hours behind us.
