Minneapolis to Detroit and back. Anyone need anything hauled ?

Who has pulled 1991 Avion fifth wheel with a short bed

I'm going to be puling my Cummins powered Hummer from Ohio to Colorado for some wheeling in August. My tow rig is a stock '06 RAM 2500 auto.

I've got a Smarty computer. I will probably average around 70-75 mph.

Is there a preferred "setting/program" for this setup? I dont recall any real practical use notes in the directions.

PS. The smarty works in either truck (Hummer has an '03 H. O. in it), only one at a time though.

Thanks in advance

John

I am still experimenting, but level 1 and 3 seem to be what people prefer.

I am going to try level 5 my next trip if I still have my larger turbo on.

Thanks,

I'll try level 1 out, level 3 back. My load is about 13,000# lighter.

My problem is that I want to do 75-80, and my MPG suffers.

I'll "try" to keep it at 70.

Good luck, post your results.

I think that maybe my new turbo hurts my mileage. I only get around 10 towing a 8,000 lb trailer.

I also have a stock 06, and towed on level 1 (Smarty Beta 4. 4), pulling my 8500 lb 5'er over the mountains. I experienced significant transmission slip while pulling any grade if the rpms werent over @1800. In some of the steeper parts, it slipped up to about 2300.

MPG was about the same as stock.
