I need to get new tires, 47k on the OEM BFGs and they are shot. I have narrowed it down to Toyo but cant decide between the AT or MT. I have the stock 17" polished alloys and see no reason to upgrade so I will be sticking with them. Common sense says I should go with the AT because I dont go off-road very often, but I try not to let common sense ruin my fun if at all possible. :-laf I really like the look of the MT but I am concerned that they would not wear or behave well with mostly city/highway driving. This is totally personal preference but I am curious what you guys think.

P. S. I am looking at the 33"-34" tire sizes. Seems like the Kore Race Shop website has good prices on the exact tires I am looking at, unless someone has a better place I may just order them off the Kore site. Oo.

I have 35" Toyo MT's. I have no compaints with their road manners. They do sing a bit on the road. Mine have approx 15,000 miles on them. They do seem to be wearing noticeably, but I haven't measured to see if it is appropriate. So, I know I'm not much help there :) I got the Toyo's because they are about the only 35's for 17" wheels that were E load range. Before these, I had Procomp Xtreme A/T's, which are fairly aggressive AT's, and liked those also. They were around 32-33" and load range E.

I just got some 285/75R17 (34x11. 50) and really like them. :D As lots of others have said they fit the truck great. I get compliments all the time now.

Here's a couple pix.

Man, thats what is making the decision hard. Those tires look awesome on your truck and your truck is nearly identical to mine (color, mudflaps, wheels, nurf bars) except mine is an '06. I think I am gonna have to go with the MT. I almost ordered the ATs today!! :-laf

I got 60,000 miles out of my BFG 315/70/17's which are essentially hummer takeoff's. I am currently running the BFG project's. PM me if you want a set.

I really like my Toyo MTs (35") and so far they are wearing pretty good for a mud tire. After 10,000 miles they still look great and I imagine I will get another 30K or better before I will swap them out. They are great looking tires if nothing else!

BTW:

I've never heard of the "BFG Projects"? Something new or being field tested?

Don't expect good mileage out of the A/T's. I will do good to get 40K out of my 285/70-17's. No towing or heavy loads. Just empty commuting, 65 psi front and rear, and regular rotations. Other than the mileage I've been pleased with them.

Looking for a new set of tire for my truck. My ball joints died about 25 thou miles and took my Toyo 285 75 17E open country with them. I had them rotated religiously at 4K miles.

Calling around the Nitto Terra grappler are 50 bucks a set cheaper (911 out the door verses 969 fro the Toyo. He said Toyo and Nitto are made by the same manufacture and basically the same tire.

KORE's prices look good, and I was going to get Toyo's through them. However, the shipping cost negated any savings and they wouldn't do local pick up to save on shipping.

Two friends of mine have the AT's and the wear is awful. No towing/light towing, a lot of freeway miles and their bald. If either one of them get 40k miles on the tires, it'll be a miracle.

After looking more closely at the MT specs, they are only P rated tires in the sizes I want. I dont plan on any high speed highway chases, but man that is only one step above emergency/spare tire ratings! No running from johnny law on these tires unless it is across pasture land! :-laf

I have the Toyo 285/75R17's on my truck and will be very lucky to get 40K out of them. One tire is really bad and the rest are not far behind. They cost too much to wear out like that. I rotated every 5-7K. Scotty

Where to buy??

Ok, next step is, where is a good place to order the MTs from? I am having a hard time finding them in this area so who knows a reputable dealer with reasonable shipping rates?

Like scootergmc said, I thought the Kore deal was great. But when I compared the price with shipping to buying local (even with sales tax) I think I paid just a few dollars more to get them local from someone I knew.

Baja tested.

Toyos may not deliver the super high mileage but they won't leave you stranded or blowout with decent tread left on them. My buddy's Toyo AT's have survived four runs in Baja from the Guerrero Negro area up to Catavina along the coast, two trips out to Punta Ascuncion, plus a three hundred mile run from San Ignacio to Punta Pequena and back with no damage and only a slow leak in one. They won't let you down in the middle of nowhere, but on the other hand they won't deliver extensive highway mileage either. There's tradeoffs in everything. This is on an '07 2500 4wd weighing in at over 10,500#. It's equipped with Carli's Performance 2. 5 setup w/bumpstops and LT airbags which admittedly has cushioned the blows considerably but... it's your choice for your application.

I got mine from Home Page @ Tire Deals 4 Less

With local install I was a few dollars under 1300. I have about 10k on them and really like them. A little hummy, but better than most mt. I expected good traction off of paved surfaces but they are much better on icyish roads (no true black ice this year, always had a little snow to make frozen slush) and on wet paved roads than I thought they would be. I bought them based on other peoples recommendations and have been very pleased.

My link got modded a little. I have 285/75/17 they end up about 34x11. 50 I think. A perfect size (imo) for a truck with no lift or level.

Check out treadepot.com They usually have the best prices on the tires and sometimes they have free shipping. They are who I bought my Toyo's through and they treated me pretty well. Anyhow, good luck with the MT's. Everybody I know that has them loves them. Guys with AT's like them, but wished they lasted longer. Scotty
