I'm in a jam with my current tire situation. I have 18" rims with Nitto grapplers on there right now. I don't really care for them due to the fact I can't get them balanced well. On the other hand, they are easy to come by and in the world of 18" tires are relatively inexpensive. I have a plug in one and I'm getting ready to go on vacation, so I would like new tires before hand. I could get Toyo's in the same size, but they look almost like the exact same tire to me, and they cost more. Does anyone have any wisdom on Toyo's. I need to do something soon. Thanks, Ryan.

I thought they were the same... same tread design right?

what are the differences besides the names on the side walls?

I don't know for sure, but they certainly look alike. I don't get why I was quoted a much higher price for the Toyo's? Looks like I will have to get another set of Nittos. There are not really any other choices in the 33x12. 50x18 range. If anyone is wanting to get 18" wheels, think twice about it. Tires are a pain in the butt. :{

Toyo is the best tire available right now. Call KORE:760-749-8687 They have them in stock for the 18" wheel. Tell them what you are paying for the Nitto tire and see if they can take care of you.

I have Toyo L285/70R17, 8 ply on my truck... just put on 2200 miles driving to LA and back... very quiet and smooth... no balance problems...

The Toyo and the Nitto is a load range E tire and that is crucial when installing them on the Dodge/Cummins combo. Make sure your getting what you pay for!

Different tread design, but a rep from Nitto told me that both Nitto and Toyo are made in same plant, owned by the same parent company.

My Nittos are D range. I think they are rated @ approx 3150 lbs. Those Mickey Thompson are the only load range E that I have found yet in my size. I'm waiting for a call back on pricing. Oo.

Don't like my nittos, they were nice when new, lots of traction. But now with 17,000 miles on them, they are 75% gone and are real slick. At least now they are wearing at a normal rate. :rolleyes:

Wanted to try Toyos, but now I'm not sure. I'm going with 285/70/17s next time.

Nitto/Toyo are owned by the same company.

None of the Mickey T's we have ever run have had a very long life. I have not seen a set of the new M/T's yet, but we are supposed to get a set in. The MTX's were decent tires, but I still like my Nitto's better.

FWIW, my nittos have a little over 2,000 miles on them now with no measurable amount of wear. I run pretty low pressures for a better ride off road. I agree that the toyo M/T's are better tires, (as far as performance is concerned) but I didnt want to pay the price for them, and I wanted 305's.

From my quick looks, the mickey thompsons are offered in load range E, however I didn't find 35x12. 50 R18, only 35x13. 50 R18 which I bet will rub. Arghh.

Greg, last I talked to Kore they didn't offer the tires, just the wheels. Has this changed?

Hi Ryan,

I have Toyo's on mine. They have 28K and look like they will do 35K. My tire source thinks Toyo's will do a little better on mileage than Nitto's yet I may try a set of the 295/70R17 Terra Grappler's if I can't find a 33" tire and rim combo with 6" back space.

For now, maybe. But the 18" size is growing in popularity at an exponential rate. It offers more clearance for bigger brakes (important as vehicles get heavier), and better handling.

Those of you who run the 18s are a little ahead of your time. In 3-4 years, 18s will be everywhere! Then again, so will 20s.....
