tps system

Just bought a new 2014 dodge dart. First car Ive had with a tps system, and I dont yet know what to think of it.

The day after I brought it home from the dealer, I noticed that the tires said they were at 29lbs. The placard said they should be at 34. So, I filled them up. Driving today, I noticed that they went from 33 and 34 lbs to 40. I know they increase while driving, but I didnt know how much. Does this seem normal to you guys with the newer vehicles with the tps ?

That is about rite thats why you check them cold

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I know why you check them when they are cold. I probably wasnt very clear with my question. First, never having checked air pressure when the tire is hot, I dont have a clue how high the pressure will get. (I thought someone who has a tps might have looked at the gauge at one time while driving). Also, I was curious about the accuracy and reliability of the tps. I know a lot of you kids have grown up with this new fangled technology and trust it with your life. But, having been around the block a few times, I tend to wait a while to form an opinion. And if someone has already had the experience, Im always eager to hear about it.

My wife's 03 Jeep GC has TPMS and the pressure readings have been accurate when compared to a Blue Point air gauge. I usually have the tires @ 30 psi cold and they will rise 2 or 3 psi when hot. It's been a good system but now the batteries are dying, acceptable after nearly 12 years.

I hate getting down on my hands and knees to check tire pressures. The tps sure makes it a lot simpler.

Chrysler says not to rely on the TPS readings too heavily. I haven't checked them on our new Dart. Finally got my wife a car with a sunroof, something she had been wanting for about 35 years! We love the Dart; it gets about 24-25 city, 35 mpg highway. A good sized, medium weight car that gives the kind of mpg the eggshell cars get.
