Trailer Paint Question

I have a utility trailer that is in need of a new deck. After removal of the old decking, I replaced some of the steel crossmembers. I need to paint the old steel and the new steel with something. I know that most of the time one should sandblast, prime and paint.



However, that process is not an option at this time.

What type of product that can be applied with a brush would give reasonable protection for reasonable cost?

I use Cold Galvanizing Spray. Works great for me. Even on a boat trailer that was frequently submerged in saltwater.

find yourself a NAPA store and get a can of self etching primer. it is the same stuff we use in the body shop but it comes in a spray bomb can. use that. let it dry and coat with your favorite color of emanel paint.



OR get a can or oil based rustoleum paint and put that on it. I wouldnt use it where it could be seen but it would sufice for ender the bed and frame rails.

POR15 paint is an excellent thing to use, the rustier the steel the better, just knock off the big chunks and you're all set.



just be careful not to get any on your skin because is does NOT come off with soap, gasoline, thinner etc.



I've had pretty good luck with it, you can get it online at www.por15.com I believe. they have some good info on it too.

I coated my boat trailer with Herculiner and then painted it back to the original color, It worked GREAT!!!
