Has anyone tried 16's on their 3500?

I have a problem with trailer light plug . Only part of the circuts work. With a tester Left Backup, 4 way flashers , left turn and brake light work. All others are dead. We are in the process of going through the fuses. Other help would be appreciated.

never heard of backup lights on a trailer plug! is that something new?

I'm assuming the original poster means the seven pin receptacle on the rear of his Dodge. All of them are wired for trailer backup lights because most travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers have backup lights.

To the OP, if you've lost some of your lights you may have damaged the lighting module. Some of the truck's light circuits go through a module to allow the PCM to monitor for burned out lamps. I don't think trailer lights are monitored by the PCM, though.

thanks Havey, guess I should pull something besides horse and hay trailers, I had no idea travel trailers had backup lights, learn something every day, I'll maybe look into putting backup lights on my trailers, it would be very handy

I don't think it's fused. It's dealer time for you. Dealer might be able to reset the computer. The computer can only reset so many times before it's fried. The trailer plug is not fused. It's an electronic reset. You likely have trailer problems that would've blown fuses on an older truck.

I found broken wires on the back side of the plug on my truck.

looks like the factory had tested the wires and they broke in the prob holes

Don't bother unless you install tractor lights or other more useful lights. The back-up lights on travel trailers are nearly useless unless possibly on a trailer no longer than about 20'.

When I replaced the tail, stop, turn lamps on my fifth wheel with LEDs I selected two pairs of identical red lamps that eliminated the small center backup lamp in two of the originals.

The Dealer is probably wher this truck is headed.

Crosbyton?? I just noticed your signature. I live in Crosby County also! I bought a farmhouse on five acres 10 miles east of Crosbyton on US-82 last fall. We'll have to get together to kick Dodge Ram tires one of these days.

Harvey I have met you at the coffee shop. I know where you live acresxds the road from J. W Jackson. I didn't recognize your name without the Harvey. Looking forward to visiting with you.

Silas, it's a small world isn't it? Yep, the old Billy Webster house.

My wife and I are hooked up and leaving tomorrow early w/the fiver on our way to Grand Portage, MN. I'll look you up in a couple weeks when I get back.

If you take your truck to Frontier in Lubbock there are two techs who work on Dodge Rams w/Cummins. Richard is the good one. Ask for him at the service counter or you'll get the lazy one.

SR,

I am sure you must have multiple problems. Obviously you have found the issue with the truck's wiring.

The other problem is with the trailer's right backup. The truck doesn't have separate circuits for each backup light. If one of the trailer's backup lights works and the other doesn't, there is a problem on the trailer. With any luck, it's just a burned out bulb, but maybe not.

Happy hunting.
