Should Brake output have power

Replacing all the wiring on my old dump trailer including new LED lights & trailer connector

I checked my connector at the truck bumper factory 7 way connector I don't have power at # 4 pin (12 volt battery power) (actually a blade) Question when should this pin have power, all the time or only with the engine running , will check fuse when it quits rainning

Also the # 2 TRAILER ELECTRIC BRAKE OUTPUT has current I think it is about 12 volts I have a Jordan Ultima controller should this # 2 pin always be hot with the Jordan?

Thanks

I can't confirm or deny you are looking at and correctly interpreting the pin numbers but the 12 volt hot line should always be hot and the brake controller output should only be hot when brakes are applied.

The Jordan Ultima 2020 runs a trace voltage through the brake wire to check that the trailer brakes are connected. I don't know what voltage it uses (my Ultima 2020 in my 2002 is long gone), but the resulting milliamp current (not enough to engage the trailer brakes, but likely enough to show up on a voltmeter) to the ground return wire is what illuminates the "trailer connected" light on the controller.

Hope this works

Picture is kind of small but I think it will work, (Making matters worse my glasses broke yesterday broken frame so scotch tape till I get them replaced tomorrow) Thinking of reposting as a New Post under the heading Jordan controller trouble shooting
I will check fuse at truck understand it is a 40 amp for the 12 volt battery pin # 4. I had checked it a couple of days ago but Now rechecking everything again.
The #2 pin reading hot is puzzling me unless my Jordan Ultima has failed ??
Trouble shooting my Jordan Ultima
My Brake pin #2 is testing hot #1 (Ground )
Reason I am rewiring my 2 axle Dump trailer ( has only one axle with brakes) is because I had lost all electrical power to it, I had assumed it was do to corroded wire connections as trailer is about 10years old and I am on the coast salt air. Prior electrical was intermittent figured my Ground was not good. Wanted to start with all new wiring & lights , instead of chasing each circuit to find problem and in the end still having old wire and lites

Thanks, Rusty I do now recall thinking just that but in my old age didn't recall, I think I have been over thinking this and lost site of the trees for the forest

When I first got my truck and TT I hooked up and was going camping. I had never pulled anything behind a pickup before. (had a class 8 trk if I needed anything moved) the flat plug was a real pain in the A** for me had enough one day and went down and bought the sockets and plug - plug pig tale from the Big truck store and installed it I have NEVER, NEVER had a problem from that time. I also have made an adapter so someone else can use my TT that has a flat (RV) plug.

I have both styles on my 94... ... ... ... ..... used it to safety ck a fleet of trailers back in the day

Yes, as I said in post #2, Dodge uses the center pin (pin #7) for back-up lamps. Unlike the other pin assignments, however, that's not a universal application for every instance where this Pollak connector is used - that's why pin #7 is called an auxiliary pin.

For instance, many motorhomes that tow vehicles equipped with supplemental braking systems will send the brake signal to the towed vehicle's supplemental braking system through pin #2, and the supplemental braking system will send a signal back to the motorhome through pin #7 (the center pin) to illuminate a light on the dashboard display indicating to the driver that the supplemental braking system is engaged.

THis may be "more of the same" but I'll throw it out there just in case. .

First time I hooked my dual tandem flatbed to my 06 model, of course, I had to use an adapter from 7 pin RV to the round 6 pin connector... . At the time, I did NOT have a brake controller installed.

Anyway, hooked the trailer up, walked around checking lights and tires, everything was ok. Hopped in the truck, dropped in gear, foot off brake, truck rolled about 1 ft. and the the trailer brakes locked up... !!!!!!!!!

Checked, reckecked. . *&^&$#@@!...

Since I was in a hurry, I cut the lead on the trailer side for the brakes.

Did some studying a couple days later and found that there are two types of 7 to 6 adapters!!!. . This adapter that I was using had been used on previous Dodges, Fords, and one GMC without issue AND with this trailer!!. MY 06 Dodge had factory installed 7 pin wiring... . thats about the only difference.

Come to find out, you can disassemble the adapter and move the wires around for the "other configuration"... . so in the end, it was an easy fix... Just had never ran across that before.

Yep, the 6-pin connectors will swap battery +12VDC and the trailer brake wires back and forth. As you state, it's easy to spot when the +12VDC is going from the truck to the trailer brakes!!
