Has anyone here with an 04-05 that has the 7 pin plug in the bumper but 4 flat under the truck converted that to the newer style plug that has both 4 and 7 in the bumper?

i saw a part at autozone that used the OEM trailer plug to make both connections in the bumper. Right now my factory harness is a split off.

the harness runs the length of the truck to the bumper, then about 6-8” before the 7 pin is a 4 pin plug leaving me to have to crawl under truck when using 4 flat trailers.

Mine is like that also, I have a 7 to 4 converter I use, much easier than crawling under it.

I bought that exact plug but when I have that plug connected to my 7 pin, and attach the 4 flat to it. Nothing else connected. It pops the right turn signal trailer fuse #47. It’ll even do it with just the adapter in the plug and nothing else plugged in.
I think there might be a short in the adapter that’s causing it but who knows. Or it’s the extra LED lights on it that it doesn’t like lol.

That is a pretty cool device! I take it that it still allows separate use of the factory 4 pin plug - I have back up lights wired into it - since it connects to the OEM/factory 7 pin harness. I am ordering one now!

I always keep it in my glove box, just in case I need it with a friends trailer.

I have Hopkins regular plugs on my 03 now. Walmart had the replacement all in one 7 and 4 Hopkins truck plug. The 4 pin is molded into the plastic. Better than the old 4 pin under the bed. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hopkins-...nd-4-Flat-Adapter-47185/16782535?from=/search

I saw the Reece version recently at my local CO-OP, looked larger in the package, maybe not. The Curt version looks like the Hopkins, probably all very similar Chinese made versions with different brand names...

They are easy to wire up, even I can do it! Wires are color coded to a function, no biggie. But I have changed most of my trailers to RV style 7 ways, you don't have to use all 7. Easier to plug in to me.

One thing that I can add is, with the 7-way, adding some reverse lights on rear of trailer sure helps at night to know were the rear of trailer is! Also allows you to add a back-up alarm on the trailer since most people ignore a trailer being backed up! I've built a b/u alarm unit that has a switch that I can turn off when at the house to not annoy the neighbors. It will also act as an alarm on the trailer since it will sound one solid tone if power is applied without the switch in the right position! You need a tool to reach switches without jacking the trailer up to get to them along with the fact that I use a jumper harness between the truck and trailer that is costumed wired. Without the correct harness, brakes are locked up and won't release with a standard jumper. Just another security feature along with the coupler locks. Slows down the "average thief"!

@MarkEagleUSA, I bought and installed this but find that my trailer plug barely goes into the receptacle. All functions work, and I can get it locked in, but it is not seated very well. Did you have this issue and if so, how did you solve it? Thanks

No issues with mine. Carefully check all the contacts to make sure nothing is out of place.

Maybe your plug is off spec, when I see that they are sold for 2$ someplace I question the quality...
