Whats the Ring Gear Size in the Dana 80?

OK, I know this has been discussed before, but I have a question for anyone with a 2001 who's replaced the trans cooler line with the 1995 line for the purpose of hooking in a temp. sending unit.

On mine, the stock line is rigid - no flexible tube or hose at all. I believe the earlier trucks have flexible line at the end of the steel line where it goes into the heat exchanger. I thought mine would be the same, allowing me to replace the flexible part with a hose containing a tee with the sender. No such luck.

Does the '95 line I've read about (part #5011244AA) come all steel, or is there a flexible part on the end? (This is the line that has the port for the sender. ) Do all the 2001 trucks come with all steel tubing going into the exchanger?

If you've done this on a 2001, please post details here or email me. I'd like to make sure this will work before I cough up the $75. for the '95 line.

If you want an immediate, if only temporary/ or, as in my case permanent, auto-transmission temperature sending sensor, try Geno's Garage 'Dip-Stick' sending sensor. It's their best selling sensor and it's only $19. 00 and works GREAT! It's easy to install, and is accurate with my West-Tach temp gauge.

The line with the temperature port has a flexible hose on the end that attaches to the small cooler on the side of the engine. I installed all the lines myself so I know it's there. (note: mine is a '96)

The replacement line you have mentioned does work on the newer trucks. BUT, be sure to take the one-way check valve off of the heat exchanger before putting the new line on. It has one on it, too.
Yes, the newer trucks have all aluminum lines, no hoses except at the cooler in front of the motor.

I just did this to my '01 a couple of weeks ago. As Fred said, remove the valve on the bottom of the heat exchanger. To make this easier and to do it from the top of the engine compartment, remove the aircleaner box from the fender. The brass fitting that you will need to replace the valve can be obtained at Home Depot or other hardware type places. It's a 1/2" NPT to 1/2" flair fitting. Take the flex line off the metal line and attach the new fiiting to it and install it on the heat exchanger. All from the top. I used a gasoline resistant pipe dope. I don't know that you need it, but I had some around the garage. Then go under the truck and attach the hardline to the trans and then the hard line to the flex line. It's a little tricky getting everyhting line up. Just take your time so nothing gets cross threaded. I needed 4 qt. of atf after I was done. Oh one more really important thing. Remove the black paint from the wretch surfaces on the new line. It's so thick that I thought I need some weird metric wretch like a 23. 5mm, but it just takes a 7/8" once the paint is removed. Depending on your Thermocoupler, you will need a 1/4-3/8" or 1/8-3/8" bushing to install it on the new line. Have fun.

Well, guys, I performed the surgery today. I'm happy to report that both owner and truck are doing fine. I installed the oil cooler line from the '95 with the sender. Just for kicks, I also changed the transmission fluid and filter. Everything looked excellent in there. Nice pink fluid, and nothing disturbing in the bottom of the pan (12,100 miles on it - 1 year old). Now all of my gauges are up and working. Thanks for the help!

robby ram , the pan is really not the place to get an accurate reading , the line we are talking about here is measuring the fluid coming direstly out of the torque convertor , that is the hottest fluid in the system when the TC is unlocked and that the major concern .
