Does any one know where I can get replacement transmision lines for my automatic first gen truck?

Ol' smokey, rattlers son

i couldn't find them either so i went to the local farm store and bought 3/8 x 60 high pressure hydraulic hose. it screws right into the heat exchanger and all i needed to make fit the trans was 2, 3/8 to 1/4 adapters. cable tied them out of the way and now have had many, many leak free miles.

There are shops that do nothing but supply and make all types of hoses, but usually advertise themselves as hydraulic hose shops. We have one in the next town. You can bring in what you have, and they will make a duplicate while you wait, or you can pick up later. If you can't find one in the phone book, ask a backhoe or dozer operator if they know of one.

are the trans lines 3/8 or 1/2 inch? I have to replace my lines also and I thought they were 1/2" which I can't seem to find either. Everyone has 3/8", I was wondering if I made a mistake on the size. Any help would be grateful.

the fittings are 3/8 pipe theread in the exchanger, the inside diameter of the hydraulic hoses are also 3/8 prob. 5/8 - 3\4 od. still using them and not overheating the trans or leaking.

I have a 1989 W350 that is used as a dump truck. It does work hard, and before I got it, it was rode hard and not taken care of. I am not really mechanically incline. My steel lines are rusted through. I have tried every dealer in my area, auto part store etc... I have read on here before that you can switch them out for hyd. hoses. I can't find the actual posting that I read that was step by step. I wanted to know what rating on the hose I would need fittings and size hose. Again, I will need this explained to my step by step. I am not a mechanic. I would be gratful for any help on this.

Thanks again

If having a hose shop make them, bring the old lines or at least the ends in, and measure the length you need depending on how you want to route them, and they'll set you up. I used to work on Toyota and Nissan forklifts, instead of ordering hoses from the dealer we had a local hose shop do them all.

first take the metal lines off the trans and the cooler, unscrew the adapters from the cooler and the trans. the 3/8 hydraulic hose will then theread directly into the cooler, you will need two 1/4 to 3/8 pipe thread adapters (available at the hardware store) to make the hoses fit the trans. run the hoses away from anything that moves ot gets hot, and enjoy years of leak free service. any hydraulic hose (1 wire or 2 wire) will work they are rated for way more pressure than a trans can ever produce.
