Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transmission check valve

Had my transmission rebuilt in July, reason given for it's failure was the check valve blocked the fluid movement thru the lines. Trans shop removed the check valve and flushed the lines. My question is do I need this valve?



Truck bucks in reverse when cold and cannot find the reason. Feels like the idle is low, run ok when warm.

From what I've read, many rebuilders remove the check valve in the cooling line because it frequently clogs and restricts cooling. Primary negative effect after removal is "morning sickness", leakdown of the TC after period of non-use. Idle in neutral a couple of minutes after first start and problem goes away.

I believe the check valve was to prevent delayed engagement from drain back after the vehicle sits for and extended time. If you have a high performance valve body that flows in park you won't notice the delay at all without the check valve. I would replace it with a full flow hose that eliminates the valve. I have heard of the check valve sticking and decreasing fluid flow.

Just let it idle in N about 30 seconds and you are good to go. Forget about a check valve. Just trouble.

I had mine taken out 100,000 miles ago for the reasons above.

Mine only takes 8-10 Seconds to get going but this is ok with me because this makes time for the Motor Oil pressure feed all the bearing before I get going. (a good thing)

Is the auto transmission check valve just below the oil cooler tube on the engine? I was told it was below the front cooler. I'm not sure if I found it. Please advise. Thanks. Herb
