So i finally decided to tighten the bands on my transmission. Bought a disk, printed out the instructions, and never paid attention that it said 72 inch lbs not ft lbs. Of course it wouldn't move. I'm going to buy an inch lbs torque wrench tomorrow and re-torque. So my question is did i do any permanent damage? The magnet was covered in the pan and the reason i felt the need, in the first place, was stuttering from 1st to 2nd at low speed. Also a bang going into reverse.

Trying to understand what you did here.
Did you loosen the lock nut? The stud wouldn't turn?

If you did get it loose--lock nut-- and tried to tighten the stud to 72 ft. lbs, you bent the strut and it needs to be fixed, by dropping the VB.

yes I loosened the lock nuts. adjusting screw turned fine I just had it set for ft lbs. what do you mean drop the vb replace it?

Yeah, if your band strut is not bent on the front band it will be a wonder. That is a lot of TQ on some light parts. You nee dto drop the VB to get to the band strut and anchor to see if you did any damage to it. Pay attention to the band anchors also as they can pop the spot welds with too much pressure.
