An oil war worth starting?

lift pump or gauge?

What kind of aftermarket tricks are being done to the pilot bearings to improve shifting, longevity, quality of life, in the trucks that are laying down above stock horsepower.

I think the stock one is a roller bearing, and I see SBC sells a Kevlar unit. Seems I have heard of an oversized roller that requires machining out the flyweel. How about some feedback on what is out there, how is it working and what is a longterm high mileage soution? TIA

R,

The stock pilot bearing is a needle bearing. I just bought a Con O from SBC and asked about the kevlar bushing and Peter recommended a new roller bearing that they are using. It does have a much larger OD than the stock needle bearing. Your flywheel will have to be machined for the OD but they will need to leave a "lip" on the engine side because the roller bearing is thinner than the needle bearing. Mines working great, only about 1K miles on it though. I think the main thing with the roller bearing is that it is alot less susceptible to damage when installing the transmission.

The roller bearing and a fresh cut on the flywheel changed my OFE from undrivable to just like stock. The difference was that big. PDR had them in stock when I was up there last and can tell you what the machine shop will need to do for the install.

Quad 4X4 has a good one also, and besides the damage when installing the transmission not happening, they are sealed to keep the water out. Honda cars have been using them forever. :D
