Technical questions

CAnderson. I think you would be better served by Don, Clint or any of their crew to answer your question. I, by no means, am qualified to explain a system that they have worked so hard to develop. I did not accept the sponsorship to become an engineer of sorts. I also rather not get into a validating/SAE correction argument about how much horsepower I have. I keep that to myself because it doesn't prove anything. I am merely here to see if I can break their stuff. I will let everyone know if anything let's go on this transmission. BTW the shafts are not cryoed yet.

Bob, ATS does a fantastic job in explaining the product and how it was developed. They will show anyone the parts of the converter if they happen to stop in and even take people for test drives.

Well said Briar!

Bob,

If you are interested in thier product, why don't you call them. When it comes to educating thier customers, they do a great job. If I thought you were genuinely interested in knowledge about thier product, I would tell you what I know. But I think you are just trying to stir things up again, and I will not be sucked into another ******* match with you. IMHO

Bob,

I dont think you've ever met Briar, if you did you would know the task he has set for himself. I have met him a couple of times and i know his heart is as big as he is.

The path he has chosen is a challenging one, his hearing dis ability will make it much more difficult to do what he has undertaken.

Briar knows i dont play favourites, disability or no disability i realize he is in a learning curve and he will make mistakes as does everyone else. Either he will pay for his mistakes or his customers will pay for his mistakes, only time will be the judge of that.

I have trained installers that have no formal transmission experience but care about their trucks and had the will to learn, i do realize that they have to be taught properly not just about the parts.

Please do not mistake my silence regarding the Eric Mc Bride/ATS sponsorship . I realize he has a job to do for them, when you take someones money you have an obligation to promote the product for them.

This industry is still growing, it has to go through this learning curve. Magic very rarely stands up when examined closely. Trust me when i say this Bob i am not worried. I am not afraid of competition. I have a lot of reasons not to be worried and they dont consist of being naive or arrogant. I learned a lot on my last trip to California.

Bob i have never asked my customers to comment on our behalf or tell them what to say, i am asking you to let this go, i have always appreciated your loyalty but know this has to happen, it is the only way this industry can learn. We have done our jobs to educate as best as we can it is still a buyer beware market.

What has ****** Wagner off to go on a rampage? DTT letting you down lately?

Eric and Tom generously extended their new found knowledge of the ATS system. I feel that questioning the mechanical prowise of either of them is uncalled for in a public forum. It is only beneficial to those of us who are looking at all possible options with respect to transmissions. True, some say that DTT is the best, but there are other options available. I am by no means badmouthing Kondolay's products. However, there is more than one means to get the power to the ground.

I feel that Wagner's comments are uncouth and uncalled for. If this post is taken to be offensive, then I must support the group's and/or admin's decision to remove it. However, I do feel that Tom and Eric are being singled out in Bob's previous post.

Thank you for your time.

If anyone can break it, Eric can.

The only better place to destroy it would be in a pulling truck, and nobody with serious power at this time will run an auto because they just don't get the power to the ground.

Let him run it in peace and lets see what happens.

Just Some Q&A

There are some questions that have been asked about our transmissions, valve body’s, and our TripleLok ™ torque converters. First one was from Canderson: How is it that the input shaft, output shaft and everything else doesn’t break with no dampener? We install a heavy-duty dampener in the converter. We make our shifts smooth gear to gear shifting with crisp shift quality. Shift timing is the key to keep the shock load off of the turbine shaft. This maintains good forward shift quality. The next question from CAnderson: This means that the clutch plates in the clutch packs are the only thing providing some “give” when the transmission pulls the engine rpm down those LITTLE TINY clutches are doing everything that the huge one in a manual is when the driver shifts without ever letting off the throttle. Well again we have a dampener for the shock loads. Go to: http://www.atsdieselperformance.com/atsu/atsu-lockupclutch.html

we don’t see the clutches fry big time eh!

S&J,

congratulations on the transmission installation and I hope you make a good run at the elusive 11.

In my opinion you now have the best product on the market, ATS has developed a product that even the company that claims to be the best and has tried to produce failed at, my hats off to ATS.

Good luck on the 11 second run and keep us informed.

Ron

Keep us posted on how things go, also let us know what kind of power you're putting through the ATS transmission. Most of us on here will make our own educated choices on which way to go.

I do find it interesting how certain individuals will try their best to throw fuel on a fire. So far on this thread there has been fuel thrown but no flame to ignite yet. I'm happy to see it's progressing well.

To those who want to see conflict, go watch professional wrestling. There are two different schools of thought here on auto trannies, better fluid coupling or better locked coupling. One has proven itself, the other is still in it's infant stage trying to prove itself. I am sitting on the fence watching since I still have the original transmission in my truck.

To those that want to get things stirred up, please show a little respect to those of us sitting on the fence.

Steve,

No flame taken on my part, what I stated is what I beleave in, even though I have someone elses transmission products in my truck at this time, I wish ATS all the luck in the future.

Eric. . just got home and read this last night... .

GOOD LUCK ON THE R & D ... I know that was a big decision to make the jump. .

Guys there is room for all commers in the R &D field. . how do you think we have come so far in a few years. . all one company . . HELLL NO

THANKS TO ALL R & D Guys that have used their time, $$ , and energy in doing what they do. . without you we would not be enjoying any of the mighty Cummins power ... .

Tom and Eric . . you are two class act guys. . hope you succeed and have even more choices for all through your efforts.

Tom. . didn't know your plan was to do a shop... GOOD LUCK buddy !!

Hey guys thanks!

It's okay that there are some guys yelling "liars". It's going to happen, especially when something this great comes out.

I will keep everyone informed on my progress regargless.

Okay, I am not going to try defending my hp through fancy graphs, dyno sheet scanning, dyno calibration, etc. I know that one can make a dyno say whatever you want it too. But I have had many requests so I will give you the three dyno runs I did last year. At Muncie, we set up the Mustang 250 to run an inertia program. The truck put out 570 hp, then we ran a load program and the truck ran 546. I since made some changes in fueling resulting with my last dyno on a dynojet at 613hp and 1390ft lbs of torque. So I am putting a little power through that transmission.

GOOD LUCK with your new business relationship !!

the track will do all your talking and show the product off good or bad... . all the playing fields will be level there

I hope this new product will do more to enhance the reliability and performance of all in the market, COMPETITION IS GREAT !!

Get to the track already... . would ya? I wanna see what your truck will run... . now that ya have got the auto.

I am curious tho, your after 11's... ... are you putting in a roll cage or anything of the sort which is usually required to run that time?

I doubt I will ever see the 11's with my daily driver... ... . 12's yes.

Thanks, Gary, we're really excited about where this is going. Everything's coming along quite nicely with getting the shop together. I'll have a website up soon.

need to cange that to 12.00!

I was thinking that 10. 99 was the roll cage thing. So I guess no NOS and stay good ol' #2 only. What do you think, 12. 00 et 6700 lbs on #2 only? Is it possible, we'll see.

I will get to the track as soon as you can hold back all of this rain!!!! It was beautiful this am and now it's pouring! They are probably going to cancel test and tune tomorrow!

Good ol#2

Yea, #2 and remember I don't even hold a flame to some of the local pullers hp levels. The fastest in the 1/4 was 102 mph on the 13. 5 run. I was weighing in around 6800 lbs. The math is close, I figured you dyno guys would want to try to verify my hp. But I have made myself very well understood in the past that I do not agree with boasting about hp numbers. I probably sound defensive, but everytime I see someone post their hp numers they have to defend them to the death or they are big liars.

With a manual, that sounds about right, 13. 5 at sea level I assume? I'm interested to see what it runs now. Have you done a bunch of other stuff now, or will this be a MT vs. AT thing?

Stack'd, I was just curious as to an estimate of your HP. That way if or when you break something I'll know. Us guys with goals of half what you're running shouldn't have any trouble.

Eric, every track I have been to required a rollcage at 11. 99 and faster. You will get to make one run (who would believe a sub-12 run out of a truck that size?), but they probably won't let you do it again...
