Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Stuck Stickshift

24v stock valve spring question

I dropped my driveshaft, and the dam parts store sold me the wrong one.

So we went to move the truck 25-50 feet to get it out of the street. It does NOT seem to want to roll forward.

It makes a popping noise in the rear, could I have grenaded the rear taking the cursed pinion yoke bolt off? the
Old yoke broke a tab which caused my dropped shaft. I flexed the system hard removing the bolt, when it wouldn’t come off by hand I bought the harbor freight 1050 ft lb breakaway/300 ft sustained and it came right
Off but didn’t see or notice any bad noises as it came off other than the normal ugga duggas. Apparently these are torqued at 500 lb and with age they are even tighter. WTF happened? Thanks

also, it rolls backwards fine. No shaft is connected to the rear.

Did you try to roll it with the pinion yoke off ?? If so it probably pulled the pinion gear inside the case and locked up the ring gear . Is the harbor freight gun battery or air just curious? Also breakaway torque is not the same figure as installation torque

Thanks for the replies fellas. Yes I did try to move it without the pinion yoke. I can now see why that would be bad but had no way of knowing. It was an electric impact.

did I break it do you think? It popped a few times and still did not want to move even with a tow truck, it never stopped locking the wheels so technically it’s still connected and not broken per se

Electric with a plug. I did try to roll it with the yoke off. It still wants to not move, it popped probably a total of 10 times. I had no way of knowing that would cause this. Do you think I broke it now? It still is as locked up as it was from the start.

When you roll it backwards it pushes the pinion gear out against the bearing when you try to pull it forward it pulls the gear inside and causes it to lock

you have no idea how bad I wish I knew that to start with. Do you think it’s broken now? It’s still as resistant to rolling as it ever was so technically it might not be broken. It popped probably a total of 10 times +- and was just a stubborn mile throughout.

We got the seal off, the internals seem to be off center. Is this normal?
