Not sure if disappointed or pissed off is more correct but per the dealer:

"The tech has performed a fuel system run up test, this test came back with the vehicle running fine at this time. There is no issue going on inside the motor."

"The film inside the exhaust is not soot it is only road grime"

"There is nothing wrong with how the vehicle is performing regens because no MIL is illuminated."

To top it off they are telling me that to further diag the oil issue they want to drain, fill, and mark the level and have me drive it to see that the level is actually rising (have we heard this same story already???)

To add insult to injury, because it is now past 36k regardless of when this issue started and who already worked on it, I am responsible to pay for diag fees $338 as nothing was found to be wrong that is covered under warranty!!!!!!! The Ram Cares people better have earplugs when I call them again because they're the ones who told me to take it to another dealer.

I guess the next thing I need to decide after owning 4 Rams in 12 years 3 of which were purchased new is Powerstroke or Duramax, because if this is the way Stellantis is going to allow things to be run I'm out.

sorry for your dealer experience. i had a similar one regarding clutches ( multiple ) in a new 18 ram. after 4th trip to dealer, i ended up taking truck to local hot rod shop and put in new clutch etc. on my dime. truck has been perfect since. its a shame that any owner of a newer vehicle can, to some degree, become trapped by a sub par dealer/service dept. if i lived near a big city this would not have been a issue, as there are more dealers to chose from. good luck. cheers!

The most frustrating part of this to me is the strikingly similar answers I'm getting from these completely different dealers that have no affiliation with each other.

It makes me wonder if there is a known issue in the emissions system that the company doesn't want to admit to because it would lead to a recall or big fines from the gov, so they instruct the service people to push it off no matter what.

Highly unlikely that you could get that kind of information disseminated to all the service folks around the country. Believe me when I say from experience that even really important information was next to impossible to get out to the people who needed it.

Mine is a 2020, the Y43 recall does not apply.
I missed that part, it was a 2020.

Well I think I know the answer then for my 2022, it's running the same strategy it appears as yours. 180-200 miles when unloaded its Regen time.

I have not done it yet, but I have read of others with the same range and sequence of events.

Just not heard of the bulk oil making, does it ever just level out or is it just keep going and going up higher?

Yep. There is no fixing that anyway.

Since dealer 1 already changed the oil and recorded that progress. I'm guessing you might need to head back there just to get them to offically record the progress, no sense getting another oil change to get to a known state.

His big Problem is the making oil, lesser the Regen strategy.

That is not entirely accurate, the regen strategy is also a problem. Up until around 24,000 miles it did not regen this often ever.

Now, if i can trust when they say the fuel system was tested and everything is fine, that to me clearly points at too frequent of regens being the cause of the oil level rising. However they are refusing to do any troubleshooting of the emissions system, eg: telling me the soot in the tailpipe isn't soot its road grime.

The tech was nice enough to call me untrustworthy and dumb by using the old passive aggressive sticky note technique....he left this on my driver seat.

This weekend I decided to give it a moderate workout pulling 10 loads of stone 4 ton each for a driveway. If everything was working as it should I would assume the exhaust temps should have been high enough to not only burn off any soot, but not build soot while towing.

I put 110 miles total on making these trips, and watched the soot load rise as I was towing. It even went into an active regen during my last run. I have the alfa obd hooked up now doing a stationary de-soot just for the heck of it to see if a good long heat soak will help things. After it completes I am going to do the after-treatment system performance test and see what it shows.

Do you have the MaxCare warranty or not?
No, I have the mechanical breakdown insurance through my insurance company. It is the same as the factory bumper to bumper except a $250 deductible. It’s good until 7yr 100k.

The stationary de-soot completed successfully. However the after treatment performance test will not complete and keeps giving me the error

Test status:
The test has stopped or could not be started because of a temperature error. Key OFF, allow the ECM to completely power down, key ON, and restart the test.

I don’t know if it’s a glitch with the scan tool or an issue with a temp sensor somewhere, but there are no codes being generated.

According to Mitchell DIY, if you’re doing the test using Witech, it will tell you which temperature is out of range. There are many, including ECT, SCR in/out, too high/low, DPF out too high/low. I’m guessing Alpha doesn’t help you with that?

I'm new to the alfa tool so I may be missing something , but I didn't see anywhere it tells you exactly why it aborted the test.

To the guys that have it and use it on the windows platform, is there a way to run active diagnostics and view the live data stream to watch the sensors in real time? If I start one of the diagnostic functions then switch to the plotted data tab it terminates the tests, so I haven't been able to cross reference data while the test was running.

A quick update for anyone that likes data and numbers like I do, and since I have nothing else to do now but wait for the truck to break down and throw a code. I crunched some data.

Many here have suggested that an aftermarket cai will cause more frequent regens. I have some interesting data for that.

7 regen cycles with the Banks cai that was on the truck it averaged 184 miles between regens
7 cycles after putting the factory intake and filter back on it averaged 142 miles between regens

So on average it went into regen 41 miles SOONER every cycle with the factory intake.
