I was driving down the road an d the truck just shut off. took it to a shop and they said it was the injection pump. I have a fast lift pump installed about 5 years ago could this have been the problem or does the pump ware out on its on. its has 170000 miles on it.

do you have a fuel pressure gauge? definitely need one of those. Even with a good pump like a FASS. I monitored mine regularly years ago when running the stock carter, now not so much with the airdog but still no guarantees.

170k on original VP?

I'd say you did better than most, the early VP44s were built using soft bushings that failed pretty regularly with the introduction of ULSD. The early FPCMS (the computer on the VP) were also problematic and the solder used failed often. If your getting a new injection pump make absolute certain you are getting an injection pump with new electronics, they are still the main failure point of these pumps and not all builders put new units on when they rebuild the pump.

Thanks for the info. I don't know if it had new electronics or not but I'm going to find out so I will know what to look for if it fails.
