Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) truck stalls after starting

I have a new fuel heater and fuel lines. The truck will start up in the morning and after work,It will idle for 10 sec. then die. It runs fine after that,can't any leak or smell any fuel. what could it be?

Prolly air: a slow leak, a tiny pinhole. Sounds like just enough air is getting in to cause a big bubble to reach the p-pump and kill the engine. A restart pushes the bubble on through (or back the return line) and the engine runs OK after that. It could be on the supply side or the return side.

Yes, you have new lines and all, but it still sounds like air.

I had the same problem years ago it was return line where it goes from frame to engine. Just started happening again over the last few months getting worse and worse, Inspection showed the prebent rubber hose from strainer to fuel pump was cracked, Swapped that out and will find out tomorrow. Air is getting in somewhere if its not leaking while the truck is running its on the return or suction side

FYI While I got a piece of regular line to work the bend is so tight it will kink. I will be ordering factory hose tomorrow from Dodge. Cummins dealer says its a dodge only item as they dont use the heater / strainer or its a dodge thing ... something like that

Did you make sure you got the supply and return line are on right?



What is your rpm at idle?

Auto;750-800 rpm,trans in drive and a/c on.

Manual; 780 rpm, trans in neutral and a/c on.
