I just got done installing a 4" exhaust yesterday and I'm still getting temps of over 1200 degrees unloaded. The fella I bought the truck from said it is stock. So far I have added guages, a bhaf, and the 4" exhaust. Just cruising down the road the EGT is at 900 degrees and if you push it any it just goes up in a hurry. What should I do next and what should I look for. Would a boost fooler help lower the temps. more? If I pull anything with it I have to just ease around to keep the temps under 1250. I would like to be able to wail right along on the truway without having to worry.

98. 5 3500 QC bhaf, 4" exhaust, westach boost/egt/fuel pressure guages

1200 degF unloaded on the flats sounds a little high for a stock ETC. What's your boost when you're seeing these EGT's? Are you sure you don't have any boost leaks? Is the air side of the intercooler (and radiator and A/C condenser) clean so that you're getting proper cooling air flow?

Yes, a boost elbow and boost fooler would help. Stock, our ETH would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT at 21 PSIG boost towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel. With a BHAF, 4" exhaust and Edge EZ (with boost elbow), maximum EGT dropped to 1100 degF at 30 PSIG boost. Even after adding the DD2 injectors, maximum EGT has come back up to 1225-1250 degF @ 34 PSIG boost.

I agree with the advice.

You may want to get a bigger exhaust housing. The spool-up may be a little slower but it should run cooler.

Don't start throwing parts at it until you find out what the problem is.

For a stock truck, 900* at cruise it way to high. What is the boost at cruise?

At WOT boost is 20 lbs and at cruise it is around 5 to 10 lbs. The intercooler looks clean. I kinda wonder if it has aftermarket injectors. I guess the only way to check is to take them out and look at them. It doesn't smoke any and it starts and runs excellent. I get around 21 mpg. Thanks for the replies.

check your intake gasket, the air horn gaskets and make sure the lower boots on the intercooler are ok--sometimes they will get a slice in them--check them all while you're at it-are all the bolts in the exhaust manifold, are all 4 turbo bolts on ---maybe a bad pyrometer or guage????..... chris
