I've noticed a weird noise lately. Finally got around to investigating it today and it turns out that my turbine wheel has been grinding the housing.

The shaft is really loose for some reason.

Is the turbo shot or can this be repaired?

CBlack,

Do not drive the truck. At the very least you are filling your intercooler with metal shavings. Worst case some is working it's way to the engine.

Yes you can rebuild your turbo, and it sound like it's over due!

Do it! Don't drive it until you do!

Eddie

CBlack,

Get me your ESN and I will price a Cummins ReCon Turbo for you so that you will have a benchmark to compare any repair quotes to.

Still shoveling snow and clearing roofs, will be back inside and check for your post about 5. 00pm.

I don't think it is going to stop snowing up here until June the way it seems to be going... ... ... .

CBlack,

Paul Mierop... WM300 here of TDR has rebuilt his turbo. It fairly cheap I believe. He's documented the whole thing on the link below...

Good luck

Eddie

Many thanks for this.

I don't envy you your snow. It's in the 60's here today and hopefully the nasty weather is gone.

Thanks. I've been looking into that.

I have a list of 10 things to do today/tomorrow on my truck.

This was not one of them!

Almost have the heater core out... .

Not at all. Hopefully I can get it for a decent price.

Opinions...

He says that I can get the 18cm housing instead of the 16. Should I stick with the 16?

Somebody with more knowledge than myself should jump in here, but my understanding is that the larger housing will provide more lag, but potentially more power on the top end if you are modified. Smaller housing is usually better for everyday use. You should wait for a better source than mine, though.

I won the turbo in the above listed auction.

Which housing should I choose, the 16 or 18?

I think 232. 50 is not a bad price for a HX35. :)

I guess the reason I'm asking is because the HX35 comes with a 12cm housing (if I'm not mistaken) and want to know what the difference would be.

The turbo is in need of a rebuild, that definite as the others told you.

Myself,I would not buy a reman from Cummins I would either get one from High Tech Turbo as they offer your HX35 new with the upgraded housings for a touch more than your reman turbo.

OR... .

I would call the Chris at Engineered Diesel and send your to him and get it redone. Either shop is capable of quality work and can get you righted in no time... ..... Andy
