in my lotus elan I have a vacuum operated pop off valve and that is obligatory for a throttle equipped engine in order to prevent turbocharger damage. since on a diesel power is not determined by airflow but mainly by the amount of fuel and there is no throttle in the intake system the airflow is not restricted which means that there is non or little pressure on the turbo shaft. I wonder how it should harm the shaft and how a pop off valve should be operated on a diesel engine. please explain.
