I was wondering if anyone could help me with pictures on how to get the turbo silencer ring out. Also, what else can i do to make my turbo whistle more? Air filter maybe? thanks for any help.

The silencer ring is easy. Take the air hose to the front of the turbo off. Look in side. You will see a snap ring in there. Take a small pick or pocket screwdriver and remove the snap ring. There will be a cone shaped piece of metal held in by that snap ring. Remove it and enjoy.

The ring retainer that I removed is slightly bent and I would like to get a new unbent one. I can't find the part number in the Cummins manual and my local cummins dealer can't find the part number either. Does anyone have a good part number for the retainer on an HX35?

# A silencer ring is a metal baffle placed into the turbocharger inlet to reduce whistle from the turbocharger. It is installed in Ram truck engines at the request of Chrysler. The silencer ring has no effect on engine output, EGT, or boost levels.

# Removal: Remove the flex hose from the front of the turbo that goes to the breather. Just inside the turbo, you will see a snap ring that looks like a piston ring(charcoal color), very gently with a small flat blade screw driver, lift one end of the snap ring out of the groove, then continue to work around the snap ring, lifting it out of the groove. When the snap ring has been removed, you can easily remove the silence ring.

Yamaha,

One secret that I found from the forum was that the edges of the ring retainer are beveled at ~45 degree angle. Use a small mirror to verify the position of the edges on your ring retainer. On my retainer ring the opening for edges were positioned at about 11 o'clock. The right edge of the retainer ring was beveled so that i could catch the very edge of the bevel with a screwdriver. The left side edge was in the groove so there was no way I could catch the left side with the screwdriver. Be careful taking it out if you think you might want to ever reinstall it. I bent mine and have not been able to get the part number for a new retainer ring yet. I don't even want to try to imagine a silencer ring going sideways into the turbo blades. Youchhh

Good Luck

George

Why would you want a new ring? I have the one out of my turbo if ya want it shoot me a pm. Oo.

So, mister Wisconsin, whereabouts do you live in this FINE state?

If you are still concerned about this, my suggestion to you is find someone near you that would be willing to show you the ring. There's bound to be one of us hunyucks near you.

And if you ever go to one of our get-togethers, stay away from that Aron guy. He's a bad influence and he doesn't have a clue on what he's talking about. ;)
