Pump/injector assembly questions

Finally got my tach to work!

My Birthday present last week was the installation of twin turbos. :D

Went up to PDR and had them put in. Was glad I didn't try to do this myself as there was a lot of custom things that had to be made to make it fit. My PDR HX35 was reused as the top turbo and the bottom one is a 3B. Also installed a 4" exhaust as the old was too small and would need to be modified to hook up with the 4" downpipe. The preliminary boost is 53 PSI but I still need to do some pump tuning. After the test runs I pulled the top off the pump to put the modified cone back in and found fuel in the starwheel area. I got a new pump top from PDR and put it on Thursday evening with the help of Bushwacker and his brother. Was glad to have some assistance as this was new to me! :) THANKS BUSHWACKER AND RANDY!

On the way home the fan clutch took a dump so I had to go easy to keep coolant temps down as I was pulling the travel trailer.

One thing some of you may find interesting is the water to transmission fluid cooler was removed and discarded to make way for the bottom turbo. I have the fan assisted cooler under the bed and have a switch rigged so I can turn it on at any temp as well as having the thermoswitch turn it on at about 185 in case I forget. I tried it without the fan on a few times and the highest temp was 190 degrees. With the fan on I ran from 135 to 170. Keep in mind this was with a 7,000 pound trailer behind me. I was concerned I would have temp problems but Piers said he thought it would be fine and he was right. Oh yes, I also had a Mag HI-tECH transmission pan put on and these temps are the pan temps.

Truck ran pretty strong on the trial runs!! Oo.

Hey Stan..... always glad to help out bud..... :D:D...

I finally got to spend a bit of time with the ole cogger too... . brought Stan home to have some chow at the asylumn and meet the G-Kids... . they thought "the tall man" was really nice... . kids... go figure eh. . ;);)

If any of you guys have a chance to hook up with or meet Stan. . take it he's great guy...

'Shoulda seen us... three heads under the hood of the old girl while Stan was learning about pump top replacement and how best to git big fingers around a small governor spring... . gotta luv it...

I'm glad the thing is working Stan... next I'll help you with a tad more go juice from that thing... . ;)

Hey first you feed him and then you work on his pump  I call foul play. If anyone needs more go juice its me. :D I'm getting my arse handed to me from a A certain fellow from Kentucky. I believe he drives a yellow first gen.

Well back to the topic at hand. I know that I wont be the first to ride in it Stan, but I still would like a ride the next time that we meet up. I am glad everything turned out for the better and I will see you up at the First Gen day if not before.

We need some pics. Oo.

P. S. Bob B. are you going to go up to Dyno Mania 2005? There should be a few of us headed up from California. If you go I will see you there.

Hey Stomp... yaaaaa... . Brian is not an unknown leader in the group... he's accomplished some really amazing things in his ole girl... . it's all about time, $$, R&D, parts and all sorts of tinkering and time... . KTA is the man in at the front of the pack, no question about that... . I DO hope he can make it up for either of the two events here at PDR... . it would be a flat out blast... . in more ways than one. . :D:D:D

I've got a little fuel problem(read -not enough!) :) I'm working on that with some help from a good friend and hope to have that resolved in a few days. Boost had dropped by the time I got home and I think it is the pump top area. Replaced the top with a rebuilt one and ever since it hasn't been right. Anyway, wish I had more to tell but it will have to wait for a few more days. Headed out on a 2 week road trip week after next so I won't be home to work on it then, hope to get it fixed this weekend.

You guys are wacked out... . no wonder it's fun in here... :D

Stan has had a fair bit of stuff on his plate lately so he's been a bit absent... course when you get to his age 'absent' is the least of your worries right... ;);)

I'll have to go into the back of the church and use that super secret password and handshake to get him in here... ... . now... were'd I leave that darn stick again..... :D

Guys,

Take a walk. I mean over to the other site. He's there.

Encouraging news; He gained like three psi of boost with the addition of the piston lift pump... or something like that. Oo.

Trust me guys, Stan has alot on his plate right now. He's also doing some "Modding" for a site as well.

I've worked a bit with Stan the last while and he's up to his armpits in 'gators while trying to drain the swamp... . kinds sounds like in here at times to... ...

:D:D... . pb... . :D:D

Hey, I heard someone hollerin my name! Now I come back here and see I'm being called the old man! :D :-laf (Dang, that really bites! :)

Well, Like the Pastor said, I have had a full plate for the past few months and it will continue for awhile. Have not done a lot more to the truck but I'm not sure where I left of here so here is an update.

I replaced the injector pump and got the boost up to 53 psi. Still had an issue with it falling off under hard acceleration. Checked the fuel pressure from the lift pump at full throttle and found it was only 1 psi. Was 4 psi at idle. This was not enough at full throttle and since it was the second new "stock" lift pump in the last 3 or 4 months, I decided it was time for something different. Went to the 1ST gen piston style pump that a few guys are using and got it installed. This is the 3 psi that was mentioned that I also got at full throttle so that put me up to 56 psi boost. Thats where I'm at now, trucks running pretty danged good! Oo.

Still need to do a dyno, ordered a fuel pressure gauge and will get it next week. I know the fuel pressure is better or I would not have gained the extra boost. I also have a water/meth install I'm working on for a "little" extra omph if I need it. (never know, I might get a Ford to roll up alongside some day!)

The dyno will come in a few weeks, going to install a new wastegate controller that Ponci is putting together and we will try to do a few runs when tuning that for the right set point. For info, the 56 # of boost is with the boost elbow on the top turbo still closed off. HP/torque should come up even more when the new wastegate controller that slams the gate open rather than open easy and slow.

Oh yea, forgot one other "little" change. When the twins were installed, I reused my 4" inlet with AFE filter and it seemed that evertime I put the throttle down hard, the filter minder went to the bottom. Sooooo, I pulled that off and went with a 5" inlet that fit the bottom turbo and a new, bigger 5" AFE cone filter. Still got it under the fender using the Ol Smokey mount but there is no extra room left. Took all the length of the filter to get it in. This also made a difference in the way the truck ran.

Other than the above, not much else has been done to the truck. Been busy trying to put out a couple of other fires that need to be stopped first. I'll get some pictures the next time I get the engine area cleaned up.

Pastor, you will be getting an Email from me today.
