I know this topic may have been covered. But I've not seen anything that will help me find the map update. I've got a 2014 3500 and want to update my maps without reactivating my uconnect system. Any help will be good.

RAM is really brain dead on map updates. I have talked to them several times about this to no avail. SnoKing

What a joke! Other brands routinely update maps on a regular basis. They all use the same map source. Someone is just screwing the pooch at FCA.

This is where the BullSh$$ starts. I was tired of the circus so I contacted Garmin wondering why they update their even low end units for life with maps. Got two very nice responses from a flunky AND one of the top five people in charge at Garmin letting me know that Garmin does indeed give FCA map updates FOR FREE and what FCA does with them from there is nothing Garmin can do about it. I then contacted FCA about the timing of map updates AND the ridiculous cost of these updates. Again, got several responses to my questions and they agreed that $150 was a bit much BUT FCA has nothing to do with this as FCA sends the updates, provided by Garmin, to a third party called Here .com (notice the order page) "The Services on this site (i.e., your purchase of a product and related fulfillment services) are performed by HERE North America" who does whatever to make the Garmin maps work with the 8.4 screen nav systems. THIS is how Here maps justifies their $150. I had ordered the last set of updates and boy the **** got real deep but that's another story. I'm on "the list" waiting for the new maps.

I guess their local Staples ran out of DVDR media...

ROFLOL! Yea, that's what I asked the nice (sarcasm) person I talked to at Here .com. These come out on USB drives BUT "It is Here.com's policy to not send out products that are older than "X" amount of time". Even if the old update is newer than what you currently have they still won't send it. Habeeb "John" was very nice and at first told me it was MY responsibility to contact paypal and get a refund ticket started to which I told him Oh HELL no! They took my money, THEY will make sure "I" get a refund. 3 days later I did in fact get my account refunded and a message on my phone thanking me for my patience and any trouble I was put through.. Let's see what happens in October.. It would be nice to know exactly why FCA has to go through a third party to get updates that are provided directly to FCA by Garmin but after two weeks of chasing this I got tired and left it at this. Anyone else want to mess with Garmin and get a better answer?

All I know is that paying 45-70K for a vehicle should result in better service and FCA is providing. FCA should be all over HERE getting the issue resolved or bring it in house and fix it. SnoKing

I think some of it is FCA wanting us to keep using their Uconnect system. It's nice, but I just can't see spending the money to keep connected to it. There's an update for the Uconnect system, but I can't get it because I'm not connected to their system so it's not available to me. And I can't just go to the dealer and get it because it's not covered by FCA!

100% agree. Like I said, wish I could get a real explaination of why there is a need for a 3rd party for updates when Garmin gives the updates to FCA for free. I just don't have the time to play the back and forth game. It took me close to two weeks to get what information I did.. SnoKing,,,,, TAG,, you're it! Give'm hell! <LOL>

You don't need to be subscribed to UConenct to get the latest firmware update. This has been confirmed by both a USA owner and a Canadian owner. All you need to do is be in an area with Sprint 3G access. The update will happen in time. I just got an email on Saturday letting me know it was coming.

Yeah the YouTube video from a dealer I watched mentioned that. But I didn't think I could just go into an area with 3G Peoria IL does have Sprint and I think it's 3G. So it would download automatically? Is there anything that I need to do to make it come into my radio?

Wish I could attach the document they sent me but simple answer is NO, there is no way to force the update. It will show up when it shows up. Supposedly, you are should receive an email, if they have one for you on record, letting you know that "it's coming". Now when mentioned. Here is part of the FAQ: "Will I receive a communication in advance of the Over-the-Air Software Update?
For the launch of this new capability, Uconnect will send out a communication to all customers via email. It will be sent to the email address used to register for Uconnect Access connected services, or if we have an email address for you on file. The communication will be sent out in advance of your vehicle receiving the Over-the-Air Software update so that you know what to expect.
What do I have to do to get the software update?
You need to have your vehicle in the park position, or have the vehicle in neutral with parking brake engaged if equipped with a manual transmission. The engine does not need to be running, however, the ignition must be in the “RUN” position (On). The customer should position the vehicle outdoors if the engine is running.
The customer is required to press “Update Now” to start the first phase of the software update. The customer can select the “Later” button an unlimited number of times. The first phase will take up to 15-20 minutes to complete. If the ignition is turned off during the first phase, the customer will be required to restart the entire process from the beginning.
Once the update has reached the second phase, the message on the touchscreen will tell you that you can turn off the vehicle, exit and let the process complete on its own. The second phase may take up to 50 minutes to complete." Even though this says you have to be in park with the switch in RUN, I have read that you CAN be in motion when the update is downloading it will just stop your radio reception during the process. Again, I just read this from other forums so it's not confirmed.

Oh,, I read some more in the FAQ: "Does my vehicle have to be in the ‘RUN’ position? Or, can it be in ‘Accessory’ mode?
For the first phase (up to 15-20 min) of the software update the ignition needs to be in the ‘RUN’ position until complete. The second phase (up to 50 min) will happen automatically on your touchscreen no matter what position the ignition is set to. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE while the update is in progress, as the backup camera, 9-1-1 Calling, and other driver assistance features will not be available while the software update is being installed
How will I know the update is completed?
After a successful update, you will see a pop-up on the Uconnect touchscreen indicating that the software update was successful. If you want to know more, select the ‘What’s New’ button on the touchscreen for a summary of the improvements that were made to your system. For your safety, this information cannot be displayed while the vehicle is in motion." So you CAN be driving during the download process. Hope this helps.

Figure someone will ask what is in this update. Again from the FAQ: "I did the software update, what was changed?
You can see “What’s New?” from the Uconnect touchscreen in your vehicle.
Select the Apps icon from the lower menu bar, then select Settings from the list of icons; press System Information, then scroll down and select What’s New. For any additional assistance, call Uconnect Customer Care at (877) 855-8400.
This software update to your Uconnect system includes some important updates and adds features to vehicles earlier than 2016 model year, including:
 Adds Apple Siri Eyes Free capability for iPhone owners. To enable Siri push and hold, then release the Uconnect Voice Recognition (VR) button on the steering wheel. After you hear a double beep you can ask Siri to play music, get directions, read text messages and many other useful requests. https://youtu.be/Ha_Ur29ld-w
 Auto Play can now be configured. The Auto Play feature begins playing music as soon as a USB Media device is connected to one of the vehicle’s Media USB ports. The default setting is ‘OFF’, you can turn Auto Play ‘on’ by going to Settings, then selecting Audio.
 Adds Do Not Disturb text message feature. You can disable notifications from incoming calls and texts, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. https://youtu.be/1ALBTzECPdE
 Adds Drag and Drop Menu Bar. Just press the Apps icon, then press and hold the selected App. Drag the app to the main menu bar for quick access. https://youtu.be/DrPefzdBuww"

How long will the run position stay on without timing out and shutting off? I go the update message the other day and said later.

Do you have an active uconnect account? I did notice a few times that there was a 3G symbol by the app icon. I just don't remember if it was while I was moving or not.
