Just got my truck yesterday. I was planning on having Ziebart undercoat and rustproof it. Ziebart is the only company in my area that does rustproofing.

As to voiding the DC warranty, I'm beginning to think (based on comments on this board) that simply buying a Dodge truck voids it's warranty! #ad

I passed on the local dealership's rustproofing and went staight to Ziebart, due to the great job they did on my '81 W-150, I still have it and there is no rust on the body. On the new truck, the job wasn't quite what I had expected, OK I guess, but it seemed like they did not "waste" a drop. I touched up a few areas I wasn't quite satisfied with the coverage myself at home. No real problem, guess it is a sign of the times, kind of like the paint on our trucks, some computer somewhere determines it takes 6,000 drops or so of paint to do the job and you don't get anymore reguardless. I would recommend Ziebart again though.

The local Dodge dealer put on undercoating for me not for the rust protection but for noise protection. Nothing was mentioned about voiding my warranty in fact the selling dealer offered it as well.

I would personally recommend against any form of undercoating. The reason manufacturer's will void your warranty if you undercoat is that stuff will actually hold moisture. All Ziebart/Rusty Jones/Etc. , is applying is cavity wax. All modern vehicles come with enough protection nowadays that the after market rustproofing is just overkill. Just food for thought guys. (I work in the auto body repair industry).

I would still reccomend rustproofing for those who live in snow areas. If one lives in the south, or southwest, then no, not needed. I have seen 20 year old vehicles from the south, looked underneath them and shook my head in disbelief how clean they are. Look under a 2 year old vehicle here (PA) and you will find rust. The aftermarket rustpoofing will at least slow it down. If you only plan to keep your vehicle 5 years or less, then it is not needed. If you keep them, as I do, it is a must. My '81 Ram has no rust on the body, largely due to the Ziebart, plus my keeping it clean and touching up any rock chips immedately. Plenty of rust on the frame and suspension though, and without the Ziebart the body would have disintegrated long ago, as a 20 year old (aestheticly presentable that is) vehicle in these parts is a rarity.

I got my truck undercoated and rustproofed at Ziebart last week. The Ziebart lot was full of new Dodge cars and trucks. When I asked about it, the owner told me he has a contract with the Dodge dealer across the street. He does all of their new vehicles.

Doesn't sound like DC could argue too much if their dealers are using Ziebart!
