Product review..... I just purchased and installed the Undercover Swing Case on both sides of my new ride http://undercoverinfo.com/new_sc.php I have to say I like the concept, the install was pretty straight forward and quick/easy. However, I'm a bit concerned with the design. First, these boxes are light plastic. I had to add a few fasteners to where the swing hinge attached to the plastic box (only came with two 1/4" pop rivets each) and I had to tweak the latch on the first box to get it to close. Secondly, the lid latch striker plate just pulls out - I understand these boxes are not for high security.... however, they do lock. But there is no point in that if the striker pulls out. So, a few more holes drilled and added 2 of my own rivets to each striker..... now secured. Overall, I guess I'd rate these at about a 5 out of 10. Time will tell if they hold up. Anybody else use the Undercover Swing Case? Lastly - they do cover my rear tie down hooks.... so I am planning to install these little babies: http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/product/19/AnchorPlates I will keep you posted.

One does not put a plastic tool box in the open and expect it to be secure. Longevity - it should hold up if you follow the max load recommendations - plastics are getting durable and strong. The worst thing you will probably get is warping.

Thanks for the review…I have always been interested in one of these, but have never pulled the trigger…probably won't now.

Yes you are correct Sticks - I probably should have clarified.... I only keep basic items in these storage cases (oil, jumper cables, tie downs... etc)... if someone stole everything out of both boxes I'd probably be out only a 100 bucks. The expensive tools are under the rear seat in the cab. My point is that they do lock for basic security, but if you pull up on the lid, locked or not, the striker plate just pulls out of the plastic. Poor (or incomplete) design in my mind. So, I drilled and installed a few fasteners - done deal. As far as being plastic, we'll see how they hold up. They are rated at 75 lbs capacity each.... I have them loaded no where near that. Its just that I have seen much heaver plastic or if they offered these boxes from Aluminum (for more cost).... the concept is wonderful and I may really like these boxes as time goes on....

If you're interested in metal boxes, keep an eye on Craigslist. I've found all sorts of commercial/contractor type truck boxes over the years.
