I have a '95 2500 2wd automatic and 3. 54 diff.
About two weeks after I replaced all the tires, the truck developed a low-speed shudder that seems to be getting worse.
I don't believe it is the tire tread. The Kumho Venture HT is a highway-type tread and not very aggressive to cause tire noise that I can feel. In the steering wheel, seat and pedals.
I've noticed that it doesn't happen for the first few miles when the truck is cold.
It starts at about 5 mph up to about 20 mph when I accelerate.
On deceleration, it comes back right about 20 mph.
It's a shudder or chatter than seems to be coming from the rear end.
I put the transmission in neutral when I felt it and it continued. That tells me it isn't the engine or transmission.
I opened the differential and inspected it for obvious problems.
I took a picture of it and I hope it shows here. Does this look like a normal amount of filings on the magnet, considering that it was cleaned when I replaced the lube only 15,000 miles ago?
I replaced the lube and added a bottle of friction modifier. The shudder is still there.
What are the symptons of differntial problems, particularly limited slip clutches? It occurs both in some turns and driving straight.
How about ring/pinion carrier bearings?
How about bearing in center of driveshaft?
