Exhaust Brake No-op

it would not be cost effective. It also woudnt work for beans. SUVs are too heavy and it would cost tham MORE to retro-fit than to scrap them and build new. ;)

when GM orders a tire it specifies 3 qualities. it needs to be round, it needs to be black, and it needs to be cheap.

by the time the tire gets to production it no longer needs to be round or black!:-laf

Stronly disagree. A recall to add a little black box, and a larger alternator if needed, would cost about $200 parts, and 2-3 hours labor. In fact, if they had a specialized garage do it, they could retrofit in less than an hour. The unit could be integrated into the air fiter housing, so it would be like swapping an air filter. I bet you the dealers would install for free, just to sell their inventory.

Compare that to the $15K discounts now given on SUV's. (dealer + manufacturer rebates).

Last weekend I saw a news strory about a 15-20 SUV's burning up at a delership. I wonder if they "just happened" to have been in a security camera's blind spot. ;)

Maybe we should address this question directly to the big automakers. Anyone know who the CEO of Chrysler is anymore?

This thread reminds me of old movies where a traveling salesman sold magic elixers off the back of a wagon guaranteed to cure anything that ailed the people who bought a bottle.

Who was it that said, "a fool is born every minute?"

I belive it was P. T. BARNUM of Barnum & Bailey fame. ;)

The earth is flat, don't ask questions just follow like sheep!!!!!All this technolgy has been around since the sixtys. If it was allowed to come out the energy companys and the world governments would be bankraupt, because you cant tax and control water. What do you think powers the space shuttle? Why are they so intrested if mars has water? Can we say greed and control. It is amazing how the guys that come up with these things if they dont take a buyout they end up having an accident.

I don't believe in conspiracy theories involving energy companies and world governments.

I have studied the capitalist, free market system and understand it fairly well. I am absolutely confident that anything that has a practical application that can be manufactured and sold for a profit will be developed and sold by a free market capitalist entrepreneur. Our great country is full of smart people with good ideas and with other smart people with capital who will invest in the inventor's idea if convinced it will be profitable. That is the basic concept that made this country the most wealthy in world history and continues to provide the world's highest standard of living to all our people.

I rode a nuclear submarine from the late '60s through the mid '70s that used equipment that split sea water into hydrogen and and oxygen. The hydrogen was considered waste and eliminated and the oxygen was stored in banks and bled back into the atmosphere (submarine) to refresh the environment the crew lived in. I assume all submarines of today still use a variation of this technology.

The size and cost of the equipment was huge as was the power requirement to operate it.

The technology is not a closely held secret that must be kept from the consuming public and TDR members.

It is a simple reality that such systems have no current practical application in cars and light trucks.

Dream on.

If your right, why does a 96 12 valve cummins get 20%-%35 better milage than a new 2008 cummins. I dont believe in conspiracy theories either ,but but i do believe in greedy oil companys that want to keep thier monopoly. Do a search on youtube on stanley meyer. It it well documented that he drove his dune buggy around on water and was offered a large payout for his sqaurewave pulse generator technology. You cant just buy some can off ebay and stick stick a couple of pieces of stainless into water, hook it to your battery and say it doesnt work. If you buy a cell with out the proper electronics to crack the water, you are wasting your time and getting scammed .

A '96 12 valve Cummins normally gets better fuel mileage than a new '08 Cummins because the old 12 valve is rated to produce about 180 hp and 400 ft. lbs. of torque and a new 6. 7L is rated to produce 350 hp and 650 ft. lbs. torque. More fuel is required to produce greater hp and torque. Not hard to understand.

You say you don't believe in conspiracy theories but you tell us you believe that some clown posted an amazing claim on the internet that he ran his dune buggy on water and was offered a large payout by somebody for something. What scientific or provable objective evidence or other proof did he offer to back his outrageous claims?

Would you believe me if I posted a story that I stood over a charcoal grill and sucked in two lungs full of smoke and blew it up the tailpipe of my 6. 7L and it got 20 mpg pulling my fiver?

Anybody can post any nonsense he or she feels like posting on the web. A healthy sense of skepticism is very useful when reading on the web.

Actually I think it was a gas grill and it took three lungfulls from a guy that lived in the Andes (they have the hightest recorded lung capacity) and it was an 04 and he got 20. 8 towing a trailer! Details notwithstanding, I know it works because it was posted on several forums, I saw it myself. I just hope the book that reveals the secrets is published before GM and Toyota buy the rights and mothball it.

I honestly couldn't decide if your entire post was tongue in cheek or if the last part was serious.

In case you were serious, what possible reason would GM or Toyota have for burying an idea, if it was practical and workable. If they could buy it from the inventor, patent the idea so that other manufacturers couldn't use it, produce the compenents, install them in their cars and trucks, and market cars and trucks that would be far more economical than their competitors their share of the US and world auto markets would expand, and their corporate profits would soar.

That is the basic idea in all corporations... ... produce and market a product that nobody else has or that is better than everyone else's, sell millions of them, and make lots of money.

Conspiracy theories never hold up when a light is shined on them.

What is the chance of having an explosion with one of these hydrogen generators?

I think it is always a very real possibility but on the Navy submarine systems there were safeguards in place that prevented explosions.

I'm not a technical expert and remember only the most fundamental concept of how they worked, I retired from the Navy in 1987.

IMO a crudely built backyard hydrogen generator would probably present a very real potential for an explosion and fire.

HBarlow, I was of course just kidding and agree mostly with your take on all this. I did not however have any intention of proving you correct in your last statement but apparrantly did.

My apologies to you. I am often also sarcastic but, as you know, it is much harder to be sure about sarcasm when it is written and you don't know the writer's personality. No facial expressions or body language to add to the picture.

It has all been a good chuckle.

I wonder if it is still possible to buy one of those magical devices from J C Whitney they used to sell in the '60s and '70s that is installed in the gas line between fuel pump and carburetor to swirl the fuel. Or maybe it was mounted in the top of the carburetor to swirl the air?. It was "guaranteed to deliver a power gain of xx% and fuel economy gains of xx% also.

qkoop asked: "... why does a 96 12 valve cummins get 20%-%35 better milage than a new 2008 cummins. "

Aside from the fact that it produces less power as was mentioned by HBarlow, the '08 is absolutely choked with emissions gear (including EGR, which is notoriously inefficient), retarded timing, skewed valve timing and who knows what else. The 12 valve was optimized for efficient operation, with little regard for emissions. The '08 is the polar opposite of that.

You hit the nail on the head its a trade off, lose efficiency ,gain clean air. I believe soon we will see nuclear powered vehicles. Clean up the air and stop global warming, sending a a space ship through our ozone... burning solid rocket fuel ... . Nahh that ain't whats causing this stuff. ( sarcasm)

TAbbott,

You are absolutely correct and just reading the facts with your simple, clear explanation makes me mad as hell!

Just think what the new trucks with the awesome inherent capabilities of the Cummins 6. 7 liter diesel could do if the airheaded environmental wackos like my former sister who has been a resident of Berkely, CA since she left TX in the '60s would ride their damned bicycles and mind their own business!!

To: the authors of treads #76, #77, #78, and #79.

Obviously you folks do not understand atmospheric air quality, or the chemisrty involved in formation of pollutants, or exhaust emissions, or for that matter the thermodynamic cycle of a diesel engine.

Your so called "facts" are wrong! You must be blinded by your rage.

Regards
