Rip at sourceautomotive took on the rebuild, due to a dropped exh valve destroying #5 piston, on tear down discovered alot of needed TLC and replace, new mahle pistons new bearings, new reworked head, new htt 3 piece manifold, since it was apart put in hamilton big stick and springs replaced htt 62/14 with bd super b special. the truck runs great it is smooth quieter than before still breaking in the rings I have drove almost 200 miles back home the turbo I honestly dont feel lag that I thought going bigger with the turbo. I wasn't really hard on the truck on the way home but turbo with the cam comes alive around 1900rpm's. I love the cam, I have noticed the truck really has a solid climb from 1900 to 2500 where I kept it driving it home. untill I put some more break in and miles on I will keep you posted. driving the truck around with the TST and smarty off before it was a dog, just driving it around with everything off and just the cam and sticks it reminded me of driving the truck with the smarty on a mild SW. before when I did oil changes my oil would turn black after driving it in one day around town. after 200 mile trip home the oil looked like it was new. so this does explain why the other pistons needed replaced they were under min standards when the engine was pulled apart. now I know what it is like to have good compression. Rip at source once again thanks for the awesome service and work, thanks the Jkidd at Diesel auto power for the great help with the new turbo. you dont know how depressing it was for almost 2 months to have your DD truck gone but what a great feeling when you get it back and you know the truck was done right and running better than ever before.

well just put the last ammount of breaking zinc on new oil. I have 5k miles so far. couple weekends ago I pulled a friends horse trailer and 2 horses about 200 miles along 1-5 pulled with smarty off and tst on 5. able to maintain 65 on all hills and temps were moving from 1100-1250. with the new turbo I can maintain boost for a longer duration and hold it running 35 on the hills. ran great little smoke. not sure on what to run the smarty on towing so i will try that next time. on flat ground low elevation towing the temps where 8-900. so far so good.

not trying to be nosey or anything but how much was just ther rebuildpart of the engine? no the turbo and manifold. jsut engine internals like pistions and cam and so on...

I would have to look at print out, the parts were not blown up in price I know that. Rip at source price matched anything if I found it cheaper anywhere. I dont have numbers in front of me. the cam and springs are listed on his website. I know there is a chunk of money dealing with just gaskets, seals etc. the only thing I made sure of well Rip did, was he only used cummins parts on hard items etc. the crank was still in spec that was the only thing left from before.

o ok. i was just trting to get an idea. my engine does not need a rebuild right now but thinking about pulling it to having better psitions and cam put in and figure why not jsut make everything fresh. and i might try and jsut do it myself. i think i could do an inframe rebuild as long as i dont drop the crank and i have no reason to think anything is even wrong with it. i could roll new bearings in with the crank in place jsut to make that fresh...

well if you come up with the numbers let me know you can send me a PM if you dont want to post it on here. just looking for a ball park idea
